I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, 80% of the students should be able to:
A. Know and discuss the common sports injuries
B. Participate actively in the group activity and discussion of causes and
preventions of common sports injuries
C. Perform some precautionary measures/preventions to avoid sports injuries
through role playing.

The teacher will ask the students who among them plays in sports or do
some outdoor or physical activities
Sports injuries refer to the kinds of injury that occur during sports or
exercise
1. Activity
Group Reporting - Assuming the pictures used in the motivation are
named as Picture number 1 to 6, students will match the following
pictures of effects of injuries to the pictures of struggling athletes used
in the motivation as before and after relationship.
2. Analysis – Group Reporting. Assuming the pictures used in the
motivation are named as Picture number 1 to 6, students will analyze
the matched before and after pictures through the definitions of
particular injuries written in a card of which they think best describes it.
Ankle Sprain - An injury to the ligaments that surround and connect
the bones of the leg to the foot. The injury typically happens when
you accidentally twist or turn your ankle in an unusual way.
Groin Pull - results from over-stretching the muscles of groin or inner
thigh
Hamstring Strain – torn muscles on the back of the legs which results
from a lot of running and jumping or sudden stopping and starting
Shin splints – is a pain in the front or inner part of the lower leg.
Knee Injury – It has common problems such as arthritis, tendonitis,
bruises, cartilage tears, and damaged ligaments. It can be caused by
accidents, impact, sudden or awkward movements, and gradual wear
and tear of the knee joint.
Tennis Elbow – It is an inflammation of the tendons of the elbow
caused by overuse of the muscles of the forearm.
3. Abstraction - The teacher will ask the students what are the
precautionary measures that they know to avoid common sports
injuries. After soliciting answers, the teacher will give a list of
precautionary measures to prevent injuries.
Injury Preventions:
Warm-Up Exercises – to prepare our body for the activities to be
taken up
Take time off - Plan to have at least 1 day off per week to allow
body to recover.
Wear the right gear - Players should wear appropriate attire and
gears for the particular activities or exercises
Strengthen muscles – conditioning muscles used in play.
Take breaks - rest periods during practice and games
Play safe – rules should be strictly implemented
Cool-Down Exercises - to allow the body to gradually transition
to a resting or near-resting state
4. Application – The students will form groups and will perform some
precautionary measures/preventions to avoid common sports injuries
through role playing.

Formative Test – Quiz on ¼ sheet of paper (Identification)
