GLOBAL CAUSES FOR GIRLS

The United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM), was

originally established in 1976 as the Voluntary Fund for the United
Nations Decade for Women.

UNIFEM provided financial and technical assistance to programmes

that promoted women’s political participation as well as woman’s
human rights. It also advocates gender equality around the world.

Its work on gender responsive budgets began in 1996 in Southern Africa

and expanded to East Africa, Southeast Asia, South Africa,…

UNIFEM operated on a budget of voluntary contributions to the

organization. The group also get sponsored from government since it’s
a part of the United Nations.

The goal of UNIFEM in its strategic plan for future is to facilitate the
fulfilment on national commitments to gender equality and women’s
empowerment in three key areas:
 - Promoting women’s economic rights;
- Eliminating violence against women, including decreasing the
spread of HIV/AIDS among women and girls;
- Promoting gender-responsive democratic governance in stable
and politically fragile countries.

In my point of view, there are currently multiple organisations, charities

or funds where they also speak up for girls. However, UNIFEM is so far a
responsible and trustworthy organization which promotes gender
equality and women’s empowerment globally. Therefore, we should
take action in time to take part in the operation: a small change, a huge
difference.
