Background Information

1. It intensified in around 1969 due to the advent of the industrial Revolution and water
pollution has been happening since the 1850s. https://www.history.com/topics/natural-
disasters-and-environment/water-and-air-pollution
2. Water pollution has been happening since 1969 until present time 2023.
3. To avoid water pollution, do not dispose of oils, grease, fat, or chemicals down the sink.
Flushing pills or medications can also negatively impact groundwater. In my opinion, I think
people should be dumping stuff in ocean at all, that’s the reason we have recycle and trash
bins. The reason I’m saying this is because I have a lake by my house, and I’ve watched it
over years go from blue clear water to dark polluted water and I could see every trash or
bottle that has watched up at the surface.
4. Water pollution is the intoxication of water all around which makes the water not drinkable,
also the water is dirty full of litter that comes from humans littering in the ocean like plastics,
Glass, and cans.
5. It started by the connection between water being contaminated by the human feces and
dieses.
6. It affects us by not being able to drink the water that has been contaminated, if we were to
drink that water we will get dieses that could kill lots of humans. This will affect animals by
them eating plastics that are also being thrown into the ocean they don’t know what’s food
and what’s not food.
7. Yes there is water pollution can worsen health conditions, also will reduce food productions
in many states.
8. This issue is globally this issue isn’t just in one place.
9. The Clean Water Act (CWA) is the primary Federal statute regulating the protection of the
nation’s water. https://www.epa.gov/enforcement/clean-water-act-cwa-and-federal-
facilities
10. Yes there is people have come up with new machines that will catch the plastics or trash is
the ocean, also there is, people have big charities for cleaning the beaches of our earth for
litter that floats to shore.
11. My Partner does like this topic due to the urgency that this has to be fixed if not their will be
no water to drink at all due to waste in our water.
12. They agree with solutions that have been stated in our report, many more even think that
those solutions are excellent.
13. All the solutions we have been stated.
14. As I said this is an urgent matter due to these waters not being drinkable in many ways with
chemicals, and we need that water.
15. Yes, social media will be a big boost in this case due to many new creators posting about this
problem revealing to new people and will inspire people to help our globe.
16. That this is no joke water and should be taken lightly and their many new solutions coming
to light.
17. Yes it will have an affect in a decade if this isn’t fixed water will run out and water is
necessary to most of our wildlife and our economy.

Water Pollution Report
Water Pollution has been a national problem that has been dating back to the 1940’s and it is still

happening. Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies, usually as a result of human

activities, so that it negatively affects its uses, and these bodies include lakes, rivers, oceans, aquifers,

reservoirs and groundwater. This issue started when there was an industrial revolution back in the

mid-19th century due to the advances in fantastic technology. The industrial revolutions included the

creation of factories from which illegal and legal discharges led to water pollution directly. The two

main causes of water pollution are agriculture and oil/chemical spills. In the United

States, agricultural pollution is the top source of contamination in rivers and streams, the second-

biggest source in wetlands, and the third main source in lakes. It’s also a major contributor of

contamination to estuaries and groundwater. Every time it rains, fertilizers, pesticides, and animal

waste from farms and livestock operations wash nutrients and pathogens—such bacteria and viruses

—into our waterways.  Oil pollution is also a big problem to the economy, an oil spill is the release of

a liquid petroleum hydrocarbon into the environment. Oil spills can harm sea creatures, ruin a day at

the beach, and make seafood unsafe to eat. It takes sound science to clean up the oil, measure the

impacts of pollution, and help the ocean recover. Sea animals are harmed by water pollution because it
damages their digesting process, damages body parts and makes it difficult for them to swim. It can

also harm their ability to grow and reproduce. Many plastics also contain toxins that make animals

sick. Humans are also affected by water pollution due to water contamination and poor sanitation.

Contaminated water and poor sanitation are linked to transmission of diseases such as cholera,

diarrhea, dysentery, hepatitis A, typhoid and polio. Absent, inadequate, or inappropriately managed

water and sanitation services expose individuals to preventable health risks. To prevent and

potentially solve water pollution we should use the minimum amount of detergent and/or bleach when

you are washing clothes or dishes, use only phosphate free soaps and detergents, minimize the use of

pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, and dispose of these chemicals, motor oil, or other automotive fluids

into the sanitary sewer or storm sewer systems. We could all do our part by cleaning up trash off the

beach or be cautious of what we dump in the ocean. The government has even contributed to the cause

and passed the Clear Water Act in 1972. This act was made to is to restore and maintain the chemical,

physical, and biological integrity of the nation's waters; recognizing the responsibilities of the states in

addressing pollution and aiding states to do so, including funding for publicly owned treatment works

for the improvement wastewater treatment; and maintaining the integrity of wetlands. In my opinion I

was never a fan of water pollution, the reason for this is because I live right next to a lake, and I

watched go from blue to brown water. I couldn’t swim in that water because I would’ve gotten sick,

and it had been like this since. The work people to try to fix water pollution is good but we all need to

do our part. I believe if we all do that we wouldn’t have to worry about where to swim or what water

to drink.
