Alphanumeric values for the height and angular settings are shown in the preset window on the inboard edge of the armrest. Individual memorized values can be set for ease of positioning. Observer Seat (1 of 2) 4 ® The observer seat is for a third crew member or flight attendant. It is installed and stowed, facing sideways, behind the pilot seat. When in use, the seat is located in the aisle from the cabin to the flight compartment. During takeoff and landing, it can be positioned either facing forward or aft When occupied for takeoff and landing, and during adverse flight conditions, the backrest must be locked in the upright position. Breakover In the event of an emergency, the backrest can be laid flat. This enables the flight crew to exit the flight compartment without having to stow the observer seat. To release the backrest, pull upward on one of the breakover levers at the top of the backrest and either push or pull the backrest into a horizontal position. The seat can also be latched not fully outboard which allows the backrest to be reclined. During cruise, with the seat pan down, the seat may be occupied in this position but not for taxi, takeoff or landing. Lateral Movement To move the seat from the stowed position, the seat pan must be folded up. Lift the floor tracking handle on the front of the seat pan to unlock lateral movement of the base and slide into position in the center of the aisle, when locked in position rotate to face forward or aft. To stow the seat, move the seat fore or aft to center on its base, raise the seat pan, seat back and armrests, rotate the seat to face inboard until the detent is reached.
