BIOPOLYMER rev1

1. Determine pH:
- Add 2 ± 0.01gr BIOPOLYMER into 198g distilled water, mix in 10 ± 0.5 mins using
Multimixer at 11500 rpm. Let the mixture cool down to room temperature at 25 ± 1oC, obtain
the pH using pH meter.

2. Determine Moisture content:

- Using a completely dry glass disk, obtain its weight and record as m. Measure 10 ±0.01 gr of
BIOPOLYMER. Record weight of BIOPOLYMER as m1.
- Put that disk with spreading BIOPOLYMER powder into an oven and dry at temperature of
105 ± 1oC to a constant mass. Put in desicator to cool down at room temperature ( 25 ± 1oC ).
Record weight of both glass disk and BIOPOLYMER powder as m2.
- Moisture content in % weight is calculated as: % Moisture content = (m2-m) x 100 / m1.

3. Rheology before hot rolling:

* Preparation of synthetic seawater
- Add 41.95g of sea salt (NaCl) into 983g of deionized water. Mix 15 mins, measure and
adjust pH to 8.2 - 8.5 with 0.1M NaOH or HCl.
* Preparation of the BIOPOLYMER polymer solution
- Add 1.0g ±0.001g of BIOPOLYMER to 358g of synthetic seawater, mix for 30 min ±1min,
eliminate foam by adding 2-3 drops of defoamer to the fluid.
- Place mixing cup in chilled water for not longer than 30min to lower the fluid temperature to
25oC ± 1oC ( 77oF ± 2oF)
* Measurement of the viscosity
- Measure the 600rpm, 300rpm, 6rpm and 3rpm at a solution test temperature of 25oC ± 1oC (
77oF ± 2oF) using the direct-indicating viscometer (Fann viscometer or OFITE 8 speed
viscometer with R1B1 configuration and F0.2 torsion spring)

4. Rheology after hot rolling:

- Add 1.0g ±0.001g of BIOPOLYMER to 358g of synthetic seawater, mix for 30 min ±1min,
eliminate foam by adding 2-3 drops of defoamer to the fluid. Run this solution in hot rollers
with the setup temperature is 120oC in 6 hours. Cool down the aged solution to 25oC ± 1oC (
77oF ± 2oF) using chilled water.
* Measurement of the viscosity
- Measure the 600rpm, 300rpm, 6rpm and 3rpm at a solution test temperature of 25oC ± 1oC (
