1. Bird concentration in the vicinity of the airport

1.1 Alarming activity of flocks of birds, such as gulls, house sparrows and albatross takes place
seasonally in the airfield during months of August to November. When transient and resident birds
fly from nesting area from thresholds of both RWY02R and 20L to holding bay 3 (H3) and on
taxiways

1.2 However, dispersal activities/techniques to minimize, if not remove, the presence of birds and other
wildlife at the aerodrome is currently implemented, i.e.:

a. trapping methods (Bird traps and Bird nets);

b. dispersal methods (light and sound such as rotating beacon and power sirens);

c. environmental management (Removal of basic attractions of birds such as foods and nesting
sites);

d. use of pyrotechnic device to scare the birds quickly; and

e. use of live ammunition.

1.3 Dispersal activities is done by the use of running/operating vehicles sounding distress calls from the
threshold of the runways and vice versa prior to the take-off and landing on pilot request.

1.4 During the above periods, pilots of aircraft are advised, where the design limitations of aircraft
installations permit to operate landing lights in flight, within the terminal area and during take-off,
approach to land and climb and descent procedures.
