PROJECT DESCRIPTION

a. Title: NO TO TRASHES!
b. Target Participants: CSC, STUDENTS, OSAS, ADMINISTRATION
c. Time Frame: 2 MONTHS

II. RATIONALE
Burauen Community College located in Burauen, Leyte is one of the fast-
growing colleges in the region that offers several programs such as
BSCRIM and BSA to name some. As it is growing and increasing in
population, it would also mean that trashes and garbage would also
increase densely. As of today, the College has been generating massive
number of trashes and its current situation wasn’t been good due to trashes
that are not thrown properly. Some complaints of the students as well as
faculty members was heard and evident with the aforementioned recurring
problem, alarming enough to make necessary steps and strategies to
manage these wastes.
Burauen Community College’s environment would be enhanced if
ecological balance and aesthetic value of its premises is maintained
specifically with sound and improved ecological management of the
institution’s solid waste such as the operation of Material Recovery
Facility. This facility is indeed a necessity as provided in RA 9003 to
become the transfer stations of the residual and recyclable waste. The use
of MRF before the final disposal of residual waste as well as the processing
area for the recyclable waste is indispensable to reduce volume of
waste.This project is pointing out to address the environmental problem on
proper solid waste management and sanitation.

III. OBJECTIVE
The proposed project is in line with the millennium development goals of
the national, provincial, and municipal governments that give priorities on
environmental preservation and sanitation. The core objective of this
environmental solid waste management (SWM) program is to provide the
students of BCC a better quality of life through cleaner and healthier
environment.

IV. METHODOLOGY
a. Activity Strategies
1.CapabilityBuilding
Provision of technical-knowledge in proper management and operation
of a Material Recovery Facility (MRF).There will be a training on proper
management of the MRF. Complete logistics and paraphernalia shall
also be afforded to the participants. A massive reorientation and
information education dissemination among the participants shall
also be conducted to ensure segregation at classroom level.
2. Equipment Support
To enhance the project on proper solid waste management, provision of
other paraphernalia is necessary to carry out the program such as trash
bins.
3. Collection Schedule
A defined collection schedule has to be followed in a week. The school
should have a weekly schedule as to the collection of garbage.
Collection
schedule for biodegradable should be separated from that of the
residuals and recyclable to encourage focus on the different kinds of
waste.
4. Monitoring and Evaluation
This component will give an update on whether the project is doing
fine all throughout the operation period. Aside from the two offices to
take the lead in supervising the project namely: The Central Student
Council, both department councils CCJE and CBPA shall all be
involved in
the implementation and supervision of the project and a monthly
meeting to this effect shall be conducted .
