We are here today, first to support those who are living with HIV/AIDS, and to recall those many

millions whose lives have lost.

This year’s theme Spread Love and Solidarity to Build Stronger Communities. This theme
reminds us that we are not alone in this struggle. We are part of a community that stands
together in solidarity and compassion. We are part of a movement that seeks to end the stigma
and discrimination that fuel the epidemic. We are part of a vision that aims to achieve universal
access to prevention, treatment, care and support for all people affected by HIV.
I have witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of AIDS on individuals, families and
communities. I have also witnessed the remarkable resilience and courage of people living with
HIV who refuse to give up hope and dignity. I have seen the power of love and solidarity that
can transform despair into action and change.
That is why I urge you all to join me in spreading love and solidarity to build stronger
communities. Love and solidarity are not just words, they are actions. They are actions that can
save lives, heal wounds, empower people and create a better future for everyone.
Here are some examples of how we can spread love and solidarity:

 We can educate ourselves and others about HIV and AIDS, and challenge the myths and
misconceptions that fuel fear and ignorance.
 We can support the organizations and activists that work tirelessly to advocate for the
rights and needs of people living with and affected by HIV.
 We can volunteer our time, skills and resources to help those who are in need of care
and support.
 We can reach out to our friends, family members, neighbors and colleagues who are
living with or affected by HIV, and offer them our compassion, respect and friendship.
 We can speak up against any form of stigma, discrimination or violence that targets
people living with or affected by HIV, or any other marginalized group.
 We can celebrate the diversity and dignity of all human beings, regardless of their HIV
status, sexual orientation, gender identity, race, ethnicity, religion or culture.

These are just some of the ways we can spread love and solidarity to build stronger
communities. I’m sure you can think of many more. The important thing is that we act on
them. Because every action counts. Every action makes a difference.
Today, as we light our candles in memory of those who have passed away from AIDS, let us
also light our candles in hope for those who are still living with HIV. Let us light our candles in
gratitude for those who have dedicated their lives to helping others. Let us light our candles in
commitment to spreading love and solidarity to build stronger communities.
Thank you for your attention and your participation in this memorial. Together, we can end
AIDS.
