3. Task performed
❖ Construction work done during internship.
➢ Internal plastering work in the first floor of the building.
➢ Internal plastering work in the second floor of the building.
➢ Plastering on the terrace wall.
➢ External plastering work throughout the building.
➢ Staircase wall construction.
➢ Stair case wall plastering.

❖ Tasks performed during these above construction work.

➢ Studied thoroughly about the architectural plan.
➢ Studied thoroughly about the structural plan.
➢ Studied about the isolated footing already constructed in the building.
➢ Studied about the plastering work done
➢ Studied about the beams used in the building.
➢ Observed and noted the work at site.
➢ Collected information about various other activities at the site.
➢ Collected information about various materials used at the site.

4. Reflection notes:
❖ Project details before the start of internship.
➢ The building proposed is a residential G+2 floors. The ground floor 2bhk, first
floor second and third floor having 2masterbed room and hall residential 1BHK
houses.
➢ Engineer & Architect of the building is Mr. Kiran.
➢ Area of site is 20x50 sq. ft and the space occupied by the building is 16’6”x44’
sq. ft.
➢ The structural construction of the building was done till the terrace.
 First week (2/11/22 - 9/11/22) :
During the first week of the internship, internal plastering was being done in the
second floor. It was studied about plastering during this week and had learnt about
the following about plastering.
➢ The plastering was done using a mixture of cement and sand in the ratio of
1:6 (1-unit of cement with 6-unit sand).
➢ It was done by single layer of 12 mm of plastering thickness which was done
on the internal walls.
➢ The cement grade used was 53-grade ACC cement. A question was aroused
about the difference between 53-grade, 43-grade, 33-grade cement and it was
answered that the 33-grade cement sets late compared to 43 grade and 53-grade sets
faster than 43-grade cement. And usually, 53-grade cement is used for high raised
buildings and 43-grade is used in low raised buildings.
➢ Plastering in construction is a process of covering masonry walls in houses
and other structures using cement and sand mixture to get a firm and smooth
surface which helps in smooth painting.
➢ This plastering provides thermal insulation layer to the wall and also provides
fire protection layer to the wall. The requirement of the good mortar for
plastering are as follows:
• It should be adhered to during climatic changes and to the background.
• It should be economical.
• It should be hard and durable.
• Plastering should be made used in all weather conditions.
• It should effectively avoid penetration of moisture from the outer surfaces to
the internal block/structure
• It should possess good workability.
➢ During this week, the architectural plan was studied thoroughly. It was
noticed that the architectural plan had information regarding the placement of the
columns and the design which was provided for the commercial and the
residential space. The dimensions of the concerned spaces were provided in the
architectural plan. Architectural plans of the building are shown in the table of
figures.

 Second week (10/11/22 - 16/11/22)

➢ During second week of internship, internal plastering in the second floor was
completed and internal plastering in the third floor had started. Plastering was done
in the same way as it was done in the second floor. Here also 53 grade Birla
cement was used.
➢ The structural plan was studied during this week. Structural plans are drawings
in which designer conveys the physical, quantitative and visual description of the
project to the contractor. The drawings are two-dimensional representation of the
physical building structure that meets the objectives of the owner
➢ It was studied about the details and dimensions of the footing, columns, beams,
staircase layout and the slab that were already constructed using the structural
plan.
➢ The structural plan also gives the information about the material to be used for
the construction to bear the consent load. The structural plans are shown in the
table of figures.
 Third week (17/11/2022-22/11/2022)
➢ During the third week of internship, the internal plastering was finished in the
third floor and the external plastering of the building had started. It was noted
that the exterior plastering was much thicker than the interior plastering.
➢ It was noted that two layers of plastering was made using the cement mortar.
The first layer was about 12mm and the second layer was about 6mm plaster. So, a
total thickness of 18mm plaster was applied to the exterior walls.
➢ During this week, it was learned about the types of footing used for different
types of building and was studied about the one used in the site. It was noted
that the footing used was isolated footing.
➢ Pad footing type of isolated footing was used in the building as the footing.
In this type, a rectangular type of pad was used under each column. This type of
footing is called pad footing.
➢ Different materials other than the construction materials were going to be
used. Interlocking bricks and glass materials will be used for the building to
enhance the architectural looks of the building.
➢ Interlocking bricks are used to reduce the dead load of the wall and also does
not need any plastering or even painting in some cases. Glass materials are going
to be used in the first floor i.e., commercial part of the building.
