Ex 6 (SB-pg/56)

The diagrams illustrate the structure of a wind turbine and where it can be
placed.
The wind turbine consists of 2 main parts: a tower and blades. The tower is
made of steel while the blades are made from fibreglass or wood. A
generator is connected to the wind turbine and it can generate 1.5
megawatts of energy power. In addition, a wind sensor is installed on top to
measure the blades’ speed and direction. There is also a computer nearby to
receive information from the sensor and adjust both the direction and angle
of the blades.
The wind turbines can be placed in three places. Firstly, it can be located on
the mountain peak where collects the maximum wind strengths. Secondly,
it could be installed underwater where the landscape is not spoiled. Finally,
the domestic turbine which is placed next to the house can produce just 100
kilowatts of energy power.
In general, while the machine appears to be an effective way of harnessing
electricity, its installation may cause some problems related to its possible
location.
