Three Competencies of a Translator

Translator is one of the flexible jobs that can be done anywhere. Another benefits besides the
effectiveness of doing it is the salary that is commensurate with the work. It's fun to be able
to work as a translator. Therefore, in this paper, will present three main competencies to
become a good ranslator. First, ability to master the source languages and target language.
Each language is unique and will differ in terms of systematic, lexical or stylistic aspect. It is
important for a translator to understand the systematics of the source and target languages in
order to produce a good translation. Second, competence to transfer the message. A translator
must not only interpret the text, but also convey the message of the source text. It is necessary
to consider the right choice of words acourding to the original author’s message and the target
a readers of the text. Third, ablity to be able to use translation aids. In this digital era, there
are many tools (software) that help human work. But of course it needs to be used wisely. A
translator needs to master the wisely and appropriately. These three competencies are enough
to be the main capital of a translator. Continuing to learn and try will certainly improve your
skills as a translator.
