What is Color?

“The appearance of objects or

Color: light sources described in terms of
the individual’s perception of
them, involving hue, brightness,
and saturation.”
What is Color?
Hue: “The dimension of color referred to
a scale of perceptions ranging from
red through yellow, green, and blue,
and circularly back to red.”
What is Color?

Brightness: “The dimension of color that

represents its similarity to one
of a series of achromatic colors
ranging from very dim to very
bright.”
What is Color?

Saturation: “Degree of difference from a

grey of the same lightness or
brightness: vividness of hue.”
canlılık
• Secondary colors are the fusion of one primary and the next primary color. These
colors would be between primary and the next primary color.
• Tertiary colors are the fusion of one primary and one secondary color. These colors
would be between primary and secondary colors.
• Tint refers to a light value and is accomplished by adding white to the pure color on
the color wheel.
• Shade is a dark value and is created by adding black to the pure color on the color
wheel.
• Black, white and grey are neutrals.

Color Models
 Engineers developed the “Red, Green,
Blue” (RGB) model for early color
television screens..
 Printers developed the “Cyan, Yellow,
Magenta, blacK” (CYMK) model for early
color printing..
 These two models are still heavily used
today ….

Tamamlayıcı renkler
Complementary: color
schemes combine colors
directly across the color
wheel. For example, red
and green

benzer renkler
Analogous: color
schemes combine colors
include green, blue-
green, green-blue, blue
and violet blue.

Additive (RGB) Colors

A large percentage of
the visible spectrum
can be represented by Red Green
mixing Red, Green,

colored light in various
proportions and

colors overlap, they
create cyan, magenta, Blue

Colors in Context

When the same color is used in different contexts

the perception of that color can change radically
