INDUSTRY PROFILE
HOME HEALTHCARE
The Bharat home care market size was valued at USD five.2 billion in two019 and
is projected to expand at a compound annual rate of growth (CAGR) of
nineteen.2% from 2020 to 2027. the expansion may be attributed to the
requirement for higher quality surgical and first care and advancement in
technologies. Growing geriatric population and income are different factors
expected to fuel the market over the forecast amount. in line with the globe Health
Organization (WHO), chronic and life-style diseases are expected to extend care
expenditure in Bharat over consequent twentyfive years. The increasing incidence
of chronic diseases, in addition to the requirement for higher primary and surgical
care, is probably going to drive the market growth within the country. corporations
are increasing their service offerings to keep up and increase market share. Portea
Medical offers geriatric care comprehensive of physical therapy, palliative care,
medical aid, and surgical care. Portea medical offers geriatric care inclusive of
physiotherapy primary care postoperative care.
SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT
PRESIDENCY UNIVERSITY, BANGALORE
ORGANIZATIONAL STUDY- PORTEA MEDICALS
India's market is expected to increase as a result of technological advancements
and rising demand. Several companies have entered the pharmaceutical delivery
business, adding to the patient-centric benefits of in-home care. According to a
survey conducted by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and
Industry (FICCI), 54 percent of individuals would prefer laboratory tests, medicine
delivery, and nursing care to be provided at home. Patients are evaluating
homecare models in comparison to at-home 0services offered by other industries,
such as entertainment, banking, and shopping.

The number of people infected with the new coronavirus and suffering from
respiratory problems is extremely high and growing at an alarming rate. COVID-
19 can cause acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), which can result in
serious lung damage in severe cases. Home healthcare services are a safer and
more cost-effective alternative to hospital treatments for non-emergent situations,
especially given the ongoing epidemic and India's severe lockdown. Patients with
chronic conditions like cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD),
arthritis, and diabetes may avoid going to the hospital.

SERVICES INSIGHTS
The India home healthcare market is divided into skilled and unskilled homecare
based on services. Because of the rising frequency of lifestyle diseases and desire
for quality and economical treatment, the skilled sector dominated the market in
2019 with over 85% revenue share. For home-bound patients recovering from an
acute accident or illness, skilled services such as nursing care and
physician/primary care services provide ongoing and coordinated treatment.
Furthermore, by delivering the same level of care at a lower cost, these services
minimise unnecessary hospital stays for patients and family caregivers, as well as
major medical expense.
SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT
PRESIDENCY UNIVERSITY, BANGALORE
ORGANIZATIONAL STUDY- PORTEA MEDICALS

EQUIPMENT INSIGHTS
The market is divided into therapeutic, diagnostic, and mobility support segments
based on equipment. In 2019, the therapeutic category had the highest revenue
share of over 40%. Due to rising demand for treatment and assessment of
cardiopulmonary disorders such as bronchitis, asthma, COPD, and others, home
respiratory therapy equipment dominated the therapeutic category. It comprises C-
PAP, Bi-PAP, ventilators, and nebulizers, among other things. Some of the
country's major distributors include Philips, India MART Intermesh Ltd., and
Healthgenie.in.
Diagnostics had a revenue share of over 35% in 2019 and is predicted to grow at
the fastest rate throughout the projection period. Strapless heart rate monitors,
iPhone heart rate monitors, and TQR heart rate watches are examples of

technologically advanced goods that provide accurate and rapid diagnosis. In

addition, raising patient awareness and health consciousness is expected to help the
industry thrive.
SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT
PRESIDENCY UNIVERSITY, BANGALORE
ORGANIZATIONAL STUDY- PORTEA MEDICALS

Basic mobility is provided by mobility assistance devices. It comprises

wheelchairs, medical furnishings for the home, and walking aids. Because of the
rising frequency of trauma, arthritis, and mobility impairments, the growing
geriatric population, and the rising incidence of orthopaedic illnesses and physics.

KEY COMPANY AND MARKET SHARE INSIGHTS

Due to the existence of multiple local and national competitors, the
Indian market is highly fragmented. Companies are extending their
operations in response to rising demand. Nightingales Home Health
Services, for example, just began operations in Chennai. Portea Medical
is expanding its service offerings by delivering COVID-19 testing at
home. Furthermore, because the industry is mainly unregulated, it is
susceptible to unfair competition and aggressive takeovers.
SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT
PRESIDENCY UNIVERSITY, BANGALORE
ORGANIZATIONAL STUDY- PORTEA MEDICALS

Companies can market home healthcare as a clinically safer alternative

to typical inpatient services, such as ICU services and
dialysis/chemotherapy, which require more professional oversight. To

tap into the rural market, mature market firms can form Public-Private
Partnerships (PPPs). Various healthcare experts have advocated fiscal
and non-fiscal solutions for specific sectors, with a particular focus on
homecare, pathology labs, MedTech, insurance, and hospital
diagnostics. The following are some of the major participants in the
Indian home healthcare market:
 Portea Medical
 Apollo Homecare
 Nightingales Home Health Services
 India Home Health Care (IHHC)

international expertise. We are convinced that the greatest way to expand
sustainably is to provide the highest quality of care.

INDIAN HOME HEALTHCARE MARKET IS POSITIONED

Healthcare is India's largest market, and home healthcare is on its way to becoming
a significant part of it. In India, the home healthcare market is still in its early
stages of development, with 80-100 firms and about 15-20 large players. The
unorganised sector continues to dominate the market, with a revenue share of
percent. Because the market is severely fragmented, it is dominated by unorganised
businesses. The companies provide a variety of services, with home healthcare,
pharmaceutical distribution, and medical gadget rental/sale accounting for the
majority of their revenue. Because of the younger generation's unhealthy habits, we
are also seeing a rise in demand for services such as elderly care.
From 2013 to 2018, the home healthcare market grew at a CAGR of and is
predicted to grow at a CAGR of from 2018 to 2023. Customers in the healthcare
sector have had the option to save time and money by having their needs met right
in the comfort of their own homes, thanks to significant participants in the field
such as Portea Medical and Apollo HomeCare, among others. The rise in demand
for home healthcare services in India has been attributed to a rise in the prices of

ORGANIZATIONAL STUDY- PORTEA MEDICALS
expensive medical equipment, as well as a lack of adequate medical infrastructure
to meet the demands of the country's rising population.

INTRODUCTION-COMPANY PROFILE
SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT
PRESIDENCY UNIVERSITY, BANGALORE
ORGANIZATIONAL STUDY- PORTEA MEDICALS
In terms of revenue and employment, healthcare has become one of India's most
important industries. Hospitals, medical devices, clinical trials, outsourcing,
telemedicine, medical tourism, health insurance, and medical equipment are all
part of the healthcare industry. The Indian healthcare system is expanding rapidly
as a result of improved coverage, services, and increased spending by both public
and private entities.
The public and private sectors of India's healthcare delivery system are divided
into two categories. The government, or public healthcare system, has a limited
number of secondary and tertiary care institutions in major cities and focuses on
delivering basic healthcare in rural regions through primary healthcare centres
(PHCs). The bulk of secondary, tertiary, and quaternary care facilities are run by
the private sector, with a concentration in metros and tier I and tier II cities.
The enormous pool of well-trained medical personnel that India has is its
competitive advantage. In comparison to its Asian and Western counterparts, India
has a low cost of living. Surgery in India costs a fraction of what it costs in the
United States or Western Europe.

Portea Home Healthcare is a company that provides home healthcare services.
