• On the first day of Rizal he met the bully
Pedro - Rizal was angry at his bully for making
fun of him in the morning
• Jose challenge him to a fight, they wrestled
and Rizal won because of his Tio Manuel
where he learned the art of wrestling
• In the afternoon, a classmate named Andres
Salandanan challenge him to an arm-
wrestling match
• Jose lost for having a weaker arm, but he
never ran away from a fight

THE HERO’S FIRST TEACHER
• The first teacher of Rizal was his mother
• It was his mother Donya Teodora who first

• On June 6, 1868, Rizal and his father left

INTRODUCTION
• After completing his studies in Madrid,
Rizal went to Paris and Germany in order to
specialize in ophthalmology. Rizal also
served as assistant to the famous oculists
of Europe.
• Outside of his working hours. Rizal relaxed
by visiting his friends, such as the family of
the Pardo de Taveras (Trinidad, Felix, Paz).
• Paz Pardo de Tavera was a pretty girl who
was engaged to Juan Luna.
• Rizal also helped Juan Luna by posing as
model
• In Luna’s canvas “The Death of Cleopatra” he
posed as an Egyptian priest
• “The Blood Compact” he posed as
Sikatuna with Trinidad Pardo de Tavera taking
the role of Legazpi
• After completing his studies in Madrid, Rizal

RIZAL AS MUSICIAN

FIRST LETTER TO BLUMENTRITT
• Rizal Wrote the 1st letter in Cerman to Prof.
Ferdinand Blumentritt (Director of Ateneo
of Leitmeritz, Austria)
• This started their friendship and became
best friends.

• Wrote the poem "A Las Flores de
Heidelberg" (To the Flowers of Heidelberg)

RIZAL'S DARKEST WINTER
Due to starvation, Rizal's health broke down the
began to cough and he feared that he was going to
be sick with -tuberculosis.
IN HISTORIC HEIDELBERG
• After acquiring enough experience at Dr.
Weckert's clinic, Rizal reluctantly left Gay
Paris on Feb 1, 1886, for Germany, He
visited Strasbourg.
WITH PASTOR ULLMER AT WILHELMSFELD
• He ended his stay at Pastor Ullmer's home,
carrying with him beautiful memories of the
Ullmer friendship and hospitality.
IN LEIPZIG AND DRESDEN
• October 29, 1886, he left Leipzig for
Dresden where he met Dr. Adolph B. Meyer
(Director of Anthropological and
ethnological Museum) for 2 days.
• Attended some lectures at the university in
Leipzig on history and Psychology
• Jose stayed in Leipzig for 2 1/2 months
because he found out the living cost in
Leipzig was the cheapest.
• He was impressed by the Catholic mass there.
• As he wrote in his diary "Truly I have never
in my Life heard a mass whose music had
greater sublimity and intonation."
• Spain was a Constitutional Monarchy
• He rode the Spanish steamer Salvadora
bound for Singapore, He rode the French
steamer Djemnah.
• Djemnah reached Point Galle, a seacost town
of Ceylon. He was unimpressed by this town
• The following day, he reached Colombo,
Capital of Ceylon (now Sri Lanka)
