The Golden Age of the Internet is over

Have you guys remembered the days where the internet used to be a great place? We used to think that
it was a perfect place to escape reality. But today we use reality to escape from it.

Today I am going to talk to you guys about The Golden Age of the Internet and its downfall.

During 1990’s the internet was in its primitive age but when year 2000 started, everything changed. The
internet became a thing, it became popular. Many websites were made, different platforms were made.
It creates its own network its own world and for me, that is when the Golden Age of the internet
started.

Before, people were able to express themselves freely. People can share their own ideas on different
forum websites. They create their own content, unique contents, especially in youtube. There were tons
of social media before unlike today you can name only 1 to 2 social media websites. Remember myspace
and Friendster? That was the “Facebook” before. The internet was meant for you. It is all about you.
That is the Golden age of the Internet.

But when Facebook became popular, it started the rise of social media and emerges of big tech
companies. They started to capitalize and monopolize the internet and that is when the Golden age of
the internet came to an end.

If you looked at the internet today, all we can see are the same websites. Facebook, Instagram, google,
twitter, reddit. They are the ones who controls the internet today. We became their slaves. How? By
using their websites and giving them our information which they sell to the advertisements. They are
milking us without us knowing. We can no longer express ourselves anymore without offending
someone and if you did, people will cancel you. People call this cancel culture a by-product of twitter.
