Introduction

Education in a traditional definition is the acquisition of knowledge, skills, values,

beliefs, habits, development of powers of reasoning and logic, and preparation of oneself for
mature life. Education, as we understand is a process of inviting truth and possibility, of
encouraging and giving time to discovery. It is, as Jhon Dewey (1961) put it, a social process’ a
process of living and not a preparation for future living. Education can take place in formal or
informal settings and any experience that has a formative effect on the way one thinks, feels, or
acts may be considered educational and it frequently takes place under the guidance of educators;
however learners can also educate themselves.

Teaching internship plays a vital role towards success as a professional teacher. It serves
as the training ground to apply what has been practiced for four years on school and provides
opportunities to dispense what has been learned in actual classroom situation. Teaching
internship empowers the student teacher to perform roles in respective level, subject areas and
discipline as well as to prepare for personal and professional advancement. It is also way to
interact with professional which shall give more insights in the field of teaching. A lot of things
comprise this internship of a student’s teacher it includes. Getting acquitted with the teaching
community, understanding the learners, their strengths, needs, interests and experiences,
managing classroom structure and routines, formulating classroom rules, writing lesson plan,
seeking advice from cooperating teacher that will enriching few teaching experiences.

Teaching is indeed a whole profession yet demand a lot of efforts and sacrifices. I’ve
experience both hardship and enjoyment that contribute to the development of my future career.
While entering Mogpog National Comprehensive High School I feel nervous and excitement
because I believe that day, I will be part of the school. Knowing that practice teaching was not a
game or an easy task. I have to be responsible enough and eliminate laziness to my system. I
need to prepare a daily lesson plan and be creative on my methods strategies and instructional
materials to capture the attention of my students. In this way my students will learn more in a
meaningful way. I’m overwhelmed when students greeted and showed respect to me as their
student teacher. This encouraged me to perform better and do my best during my stay in Mogpog
National Comprehensive High School.

Different learners require diverse strategies that will test the efficiency and effectivity of
a teacher. When teaching one must observe my factors evolving around one student’s life, such
as hereditary, home environment and the society he/she involves in. These factors will help me
to come up what methods and materials that fit child’s natural inclinations and his/her way of
processing knowledge. I also allow them enough space and time to reinforce the lesson to
discover on their own and where construction of knowledge to happen. I choose to be a teacher
because I want to make a difference. I experience that students have their intelligences that are
essential in teaching-learning process. Through that I’ve learned to be responsible in everything,
to be their role model, actress and specially to be student’s best friend.

Teaching career doesn’t only focuses on teachers and the learners but also to the
teaching community which include the relationship between the co- teachers and the
administration, having a harmonious relationship that allows collaboration of experiences and
ideas. Benefiting from one another to foster development of both career and the school. As
student teacher I’ve experience the reality of teaching profession as to what do I need to do, how
to face and solve different struggles that may arise during my internship. The program causes me
to strive more to be an effective and efficient teacher as I pursue this course.
