A. PREPARATION

A.DAILY ROUTINE

a. Prayer -Lord we praise and glorify Your

- May I ask Joy to lead the prayer. Holy Name.
We thank You for this wonderful
day that You’ve given us and for
another chance to live, for us to be
able to continuously adore You.
Lord God, forgive everyone of us in
our sins. We are asking for Your
love, care and guidance for each and
everyone of us and for our family
and loved ones. Please give our
teacher wisdom and enough
knowledge. Protect us Lord from all
evil deeds. All these in Your Mighty
Name. Amen.

b. Greetings -Good morning, Ma’am!

-Good morning class!

c. Keeping the Room in Order

- Class, before you take your seats,
please see those pieces of papers and
plastics under your chairs, pick those up
and arrange your chairs properly in
1,2,3,4,5….10.

d. Checking of Attendance
-Is there any absent today? -None, Ma’am!
-Very good! I hope you can maintain
perfect attendance until the end of the
school year.

B. REVIEW
- Last time we had discussed about the
measures of central tendency, right? -Yes, Ma’am!

-Before we move on to our next lesson

let us first have a recap of the lesson
that we had yesterday.
-Now, what are the measures of central -Ma’am, the measures of central
tendency? tendency are the mean, median and
mode of ungrouped data.
-Very well said!

-How about the mean? -It is the average of the data set.
Anyone?

-How about the median? -It is the middle term of the data.
Ms. Rosel?

-And lastly, what is mode? -It is the most frequent occurring

value in the data.

-Do you have any questions or -None ma’am.

clarifications regarding our last lesson?

C.MOTIVATION
Let’s have a group activity:
Activity # 1: SPELL ME
Instruction: The students will be
divided into two groups, with each
member holding a cut-out letter. They
will use it to form a word that
corresponds to the correct answer.

Given the following scores/data: They will come up with the

Find the median. following words:
1. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 4 (FOUR)

2. 9 4 5 5 2 7 5(FIVE)

3. 13 12 11 14 11 16 17 18 10 15(ELEVEN)

4. 11 10 8 9 7 7 5 12 13 14 15 16 7(SEVEN)

5. 3 1 4 9 9 13 12 17 9(NINE)

B. PRESENTATION -This morning we will discuss on the

OF THE LESSON Measures of Position. Measures of
Position have two types of data the
Ungrouped Data and Grouped Data.
But for today’s lesson we will focus on
Measures of Position of Quartiles for
Ungrouped Data. In this topic you are
expected to; illustrate the quartiles for
ungrouped data, calculate the first
quartile, second quartile and third
quartile of a set of data and appreciate
the values of patience and perseverance
in developing the skill.

-Observe and listen carefully for we

will be having another activity later. -Yes ma’am!
Is that clear?

ACTIVITY 2: COUNT ME
Let me introduce to you the measures
of position for ungrouped data
1. ( 2 4 6 8 5 )
2. ( 3 1 4 9 11 13 12 17 )
3. ( 11 10 8 9 7 7 5 12 13 14 15 16
11 10 8 9 7 7 5 12 13 14 15 16
12 11 13 14 17 19 )

-How many elements are there in 1) N=5

number 1, 2 and 3? 2) N=8
3) N=29

-Based from the examples, who can Laica: If the number of elements is
define what is ungrouped data? less than 30, then it is ungrouped
data.
-Very good!

-When you heard the word quartile Marga: Quartiles are the values
what comes into your mind? which divide the distribution into
four equal parts.
ACTIVITY 3: LET’S SOLVE IT
Let’s have another activity to continue
what you have done earlier.
Given the example of ungrouped data:

9 18 19 12 14 11
12 16 17 19 13 14

 Who would like to arrange our Tin: 9 12 12 13 14 14 16 17 17 18

data into ascending order? 19 19
14+18
 Will you find the median of the Carla: M = 2 =16
data?
 What is the median of the lower 12+12
Vangie: M= =12
half? 2
 How about the upper half? Grazel: M=
18+19
=13.5
2

9 12 12 13 14 14 16 17 17 18 19 19

𝑄1 𝑄2 𝑄3

The quartiles are the score points which

divide a distribution into four equal
parts.
 25% of the data has a value ≤ Q1
 50% of the data has a value ≤ Q2
 75% of the data has a value ≤ Q3

This is the formula in finding the

quartile:

𝑖.(𝑛+1 𝑡ℎ
𝑄1=( )
4

Where: i=1,2,3
n is the number of samples

Example
Find the Q1, Q2 and Q3 of the
following set of data.
19 12 16 0 14 9 6 1 12 13 10 19 7 5 8
Solution:
Arrange it in ascending order
0 1 5 6 7 8 9 10 12 12 13 14 16 19 19
𝑖.(𝑛+1 𝑡ℎ
𝑄1=( )
4
1.(15+1 𝑡ℎ
𝑄1=( 4 )
16
𝑄1=( 4 ) 𝑡ℎ
𝑄1=4 𝑡ℎ
Therefore the quartile 1 is 6.

𝑖.(𝑛+1 𝑡ℎ
𝑄2 =( )
4
2.(15+1 𝑡ℎ
𝑄2 =( )
4
32
𝑄2 =( ) 𝑡ℎ
4
𝑄2 =8 𝑡ℎ
Therefore the quartile 2 is 10.

𝑖.(𝑛+1 𝑡ℎ
𝑄3 =( )
4
3.(15+1 𝑡ℎ
𝑄1=( )
4
48
𝑄1=( 4 ) 𝑡ℎ
𝑄1=12 𝑡ℎ
Therefore the quartile 3 is 14.

Any question class? None ma’am!

C. PRACTICE To further enhance your knowledge,
let’s practice what you have learned
about quartiles. I’m going to divide you
into 3 groups. The group 1 will find the
𝑄1,group for 𝑄2 and 𝑄3 for group 3.
I will give you 3 minutes to do this.

ACTIVITY 4:FIND ME
Materials: White Board, Marker And
Eraser
Find the first quartile (Q1), second
quartile (Q2) and the third quartile
(Q3), given the scores of 10 students in
their Mathematics activity.

𝑄2 =( 4 ) 𝑡ℎ
𝑄2 =6.5 𝑡ℎ
𝑄2 =6 𝑡ℎ +.5(7 𝑡ℎ -6 𝑡ℎ )
𝑄2 =10+.5(11-10)
𝑄2 =11.5
GROUP 3 SOLUTION:

F. VALUING Quartile values divide your data into
quarters. We may be in the lower
section at times, but we can work
harder to move up to the middle section
and achieve our goals. However, being
at the bottom forces us to be humble in
front of other.
G. ASSIGNMENT ACTIVITY 7: BRING ME HOME!
What is Linear Interpolation and how is Linear interpolation is frequently
it useful in finding the measures of used in statistics to calculate the
position of quartiles? You may search estimated median, quartiles, or
in the internet and write your answer in percentiles of a set of data,
your notebook. especially when the data is
presented in a group frequency table
with class intervals.
-Goodbye ma’am!

-Goodbye Class!
