    Main Street used to be the shopping district with many buildings and stores on both sides. There was a drugstore, park, and large department store across from each other. Many small shops, a bookstore, delicatessen, butcher store, flower shop, shoe store, beauty parlors, and barbershop were also located near the department store. While not on Main Street, there was an old bakery downtown behind the shoe store on a side street, run by the smiling and busy baker Mr. Johnson, where fresh bread and cookies were bought. Next to the bakery was a gift shop known as the best in town for buying presents.

    THE PEOPLE AROUND ME

    MAIN STREET

    Main Street is very long. There are many buildings and stores on both side of it.

    There is a drugstore on one side of the street. Opposite the drugstore, there is a park, and next
    to the park is a large department store. There are also many small shops on Main Street
    because this used to be the shopping district.

    Some years ago, there was a bookstore next to the department store, and a delicatessen and a
    butcher store were near it too. The flower shop, the shoes store either, the beauty parlors and
    the barbershop were not very far from the department store either.

    There was and old bakery downtown, but it was not on Main Street. It was behind the shoe
    store on a side street. We used to buy fresh bread and cookies there after school, Mr. Johnson
    the baker, a fat and busy man was always smiling. Beside his store was the best gift shop in
    town, where we used to buy presents for our friends and relatives.
