 AMERICAN SOCIETY OF TRAVEL AGENTS (ASTA)
 The American Steamship and Tourist Agents Association, which later became known as
the American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA), was established in New York City on April
20, 1931.
 The National Association of Commissioned Travel Agents, Inc. (NACTA), which is now a
membership subsidiary and has been known as National Association of Career Travel
Agents since 2009, was bought by ASTA on January 26, 2000.
 In 1944, ASTA changed its name to the American Society of Travel Agents. Independent
travel agents, cruise-focused agents, home-based travel agents, and outside sales agents
are all represented by NACTA.
