CALL TO RAISE FUNDS TO CONSERVE ELEPHANTS IN THE CENTRAL

HIGHLANDS OF VIETNAM!
Elephants are the largest land mammals on earth and have distinctly massive
bodies, large ears, and long trunks. Their main habitat is in dense forests,
swamps, high mountainous areas. This area has very favorable climatic
conditions for them to live, develop and help the people here.
Recently, the number of elephants is in an alarming decline. According to the
Vietnam Wildlife Protection Agency, in the past 30 years, the number of
elephants in Vietnam in general and in the Central Highlands has decreased
rapidly year by year. In the 1990s, it was estimated that the number of wild
elephants in Vietnam was about 1,500-2000 individuals. However, currently,
Vietnam only has about 124 - 148 wild elephants. This figure shows a sad
reality about the limited status of elephant protection in the Central Highlands.
Human demand for ivory, elephant tail hair for jewelry is driving the illegal
poaching of elephants for ivory and parts. The world's major conservation
organizations consider the trade in ivory and elephant products as the biggest
threat, threatening the species' extinction. Therefore, it is necessary to take
preventive measures and make specific efforts and actions to end this situation.
Recognizing the importance of this issue, I urge students to donate a small
amount of money as a "small plan" to help the authorities in this area protect the
Central Highlands elephants. Although this amount is not large, it also partly
shows the high awareness of the current problem of the Central Highlands
region and of Vietnam in general.
All donations should be sent to the School's Youth Union Office.
