By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:
1.1.2 Understand independently specific information and details in extended texts on a
wide range of familiar topics and some unfamiliar topics by answering 10 gap fills.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
3.1.2 Understand specific details and information in extended texts on a wide range of
familiar topics and some unfamiliar topics by predicting the possible answers to 10 gap fills
in an audio text.
What I’m looking for (WILF)
1. Pupils can answer 10 gap fills.
SUCCESS CRITERIA
2. Pupils can predict the possible answers to 10 gap fills in an audio text.

ACTIVITIES
1. Pupils discuss as a class important listening tips (ex: read the questions before listening).
PRE-LESSON
2. A list is written on the board as a reminder.
3. Pupils are reminded about the discussions they had in the previous unit about working in a different
country.
4. Pupils discuss in groups if anyone would like to live in another country or at least experience working
for a short while in another country, whether they have been to Australia and what they know about
Australia.
5. A few groups share their discussion with the class.
6. Pupils are given gapped audio text of Part 2 Listening Sample Paper 2 and work in pairs to read the
text.
7. Pupils need to decide for each gap what information is missing, what type of word(s) is/are missing
LESSON DEVELOPMENT i.e. a noun, adjective, verb, etc. and give possible examples of the missing words. (Complementary
Skill)
8. Pupils discuss the possible words as a class.
9. Pupils listen twice to an audio about a man talking about his experience of working in Australia.
10. Pupils answer 10 gap fills. (Main Skill)
11. Pupils compare their answers in pairs before discussing as a class.
Differentiated Activities:
Less proficient pupils: During the listening activity, pupils answer the gapped fill questions together instead
of independently.
More proficient pupils: -
POST-LESSON 12. Pupils review their learning in this lesson by completing an exit card: ‘what they were able to do well
in the activities?’ and ‘what they found particularly challenging about the activities?’
13. A few pupils share their exit cards with the class
