The Right to Information is one of the basic human rights and an indispensable

part in the democratic society. However, it becomes necessary to bring out


legal provisions which make citizen’s access to information where the
Government imposes confidentiality in the name of Official Secrets Act. The
Right to Information Act came into effect and became a fundamental right
after a lot of pressure to the Government. According to this act, the
Government bodies and funded agencies are liable to share any information
that the citizens ask for. Under this, a Public Information Officer(PIO) whose
role would be to ensure that information sought for is disclosed within 30 days.
