9, PRESENTATION OF COMPUTATIONS 9.1 INTRODUCTION The format for presentation of survey computations for fixed boundary surveys in Kenya is standardized. It is therefore necessary that a surveyor acquaint himself with the format before submitting his work to the Director of Surveys. The sequence for compilation of computations is as follows:~ a) The Surveyor's report. b) Comprehensive index to the computations. ©) Final coordinates list. d) Base measurement, computation of astronomical position and azimuth, transformation from Geographicals, and convergence, e) Triangulation diagram. f) Triangulation computations. g) Computation of trigonometrical heights. h) Traverse computations. i) Derivation of boundary data, j) Demonstration of field checks and computations, k) Consistency checks, 1) Computation of areas. The above order of presentation is used for all fixed boundary computations with omission of irrelevant sections, depending on the scope of the survey. Pages are numbered consecutively and use of letters, prefixes and suffixes (e.g. page number "W" or"D14" or "54d") is avoided where possible. Throughout the computations, cross-referencing of the particular Field Note and Computation page numbers and the relevant survey plans (FR Nos.), from which values have been taken is done thoroughly. If the compilation of the computations is done in proper sequence, the need to "reference forward" (i.e. refer to data which appears on a subsequent page) is eliminated. When compilation of the computations is being done, it is needful that the Field Notes pagination and indexing have been completed. 9.2 THE SURVEYORS REPORT The Surveyor's report is usually compiled before pagination of the computation(s) file after all the relevant computations have been done. Reports on all surveys should include the following paragraphs, as is needful:- a) Reference to the Approval for the Survey. For a subdivision survey, this will include necessary reference to provisional and final approval. References to letters of Allotment and Acceptance are made with regard to New Grant surveys. b) Datum for Survey. Triangulation, Standard Traverse chart, and/or Survey Plan should be quoted followed by a list of the actual points used as datum, describing the class of each beacon and its condition. ©) Method. This should be a concise description of the actual fieldwork carried out, indicating the closures obtained and the general reliability of the survey. Page I d) e) 8) h) Unorthodox methods should be explained and reference made to any special rulings by the Director of Surveys. Old beacons found should be listed showing the class and condition of each. The method of identification of beacons (e.g. connection to reference pins, or standard traverses points) should be stated in each case. For missing beacons, the method of identification of their positions should be stated. Comparison of old data with new data in respect of old beacons found. Re-establishments and basis of re-establishments. Description of the placing and field checking of new beacons. Ifa previous survey of an existing boundary has been adopted, reference should be made to the authority to do so by the Director of Surveys. If a re-survey of an existing natural boundary is done anddifferences with a previous survey are detected, the surveyor should state whether, in his opinion, these differences may be attributed to possible change of course of the boundary or to faulty original survey. Areas, Agreement of the sum of subdivision areas with the head title area should be demonstrated. Any other information, which may assist in the examination of the plan and hasten its approval.
