I. Learning Competencies
LO3: Set-Up tables in the Dining Area.
3.4. Fold properly and laid cloth napkins on the table
appropriately according to napkin folding style.
3.5. Skirt properly buffet or display tables taking into account
symmetry, balance and harmony in size and designs.

II. Objectives
At the end of the lesson the students are expected to:

1. identify the different Table Napkin folding ;


2. appreciate the value of table napkin in a setting and
3. make some Table Napkin folding.

III. Let us Understand
An ordinary table setting is enhanced with the used of appropriate accessories
and decorations. Accessories and decorations need not be elaborate. They are
things you can add to ordinary setting to create a pleasant atmosphere different
from our everyday setting. Table napkin is one example of accessories. Table
napkins give an
artistic effect to the simplest table setting. Napkins are made of paper or cloth. Sizes vary
depending on the type of table setting. In cocktail setting, smallest table napkin is used,12-
inch square of cloth (for luncheon napkins) while 18-inch square of cloth is used for
luxurious dinner napkins. Other napkins size may vary from 16-inches square or 21- inches
square.

Napkins can be placed on the plate, folded on top of the table, rolled, and inserted in napkin
rings or tucked into a glass. Our knowledge of various ways of folding napkin will be an
advantage in table setting. The following are some types of table napkins and how they are
done.

Ways of Napkin Folding

1) The Rectangle

a) Fold
the napkin to the top
b) Bring left side to the right
c) Fold again from left to right

2) The Peacock

a) Place napkin flat on the table


b) Take bottom part and pleat all the way up.
c) Fold in the middle.
d) Place in a goblet and open to form a peacock.

3) The Bishop’s Mitre

a) Make a rectangular fold
) Take the left side and fold slantingly to the top.
c) Fold the upper left corner inside and when done , fold again.
d) Bring the lower right corner in and tuck inside the pocket -like flap. Make it stand.

4) Fan with Stand

a) Make a rectangular fold


b) Make an accordion pleat, leaving 2 inches space gap from the top then turn over.
c) Fold the right flap to the left, take left tip side, bring it down to the level pleat.

5) The Rose

a) Fold all four corner sides to the center


b) Repeat procedure for the second time and turnover.
c) Fold again all four sides toward the center.
d) While putting pressure to the center, pull out from under the four petal-like flaps on
the side, including the flaps in- between.

6) Candle

a) Bring point A to B and press on fold CD.


b) Turn down fold EF online GH and press
c) Roll entire napkin from point G toward H with the cuff outside.
d) Roll carefully down its length.
e) Tuck remaining cuff corner inside cuff.

7) Pyramid

a) Bring AB to CD.
b) Bring upper right and left corners down to meet center fold.
c) Fold lower right and left corners up to meet at top edge.
d) Turn over and over (by turning point facing you forward).
e) Lift upper layer of bottom corner closest to you to meet top corner.

8) Lotus/ Waterlily/ Artichoke

a) Take the four corners of the napkin towards the center.


b) Turnover, then repeat step A.
c) Pull each flap underneath to form into four lotus petals

IV. Let us Analyze


To show that you have learn some table napkin folding, do the
following:
* To prepare your materials, you may need a 12-inch square of cloth or 18-inch
squares of cloth. Other napkins size may vary from 16-inches square or 21-inches
square.
* Choose your preferred size of Table napkin.
* If some of your classmates live closed to you (your neighbor), you
may invite them to work along with you.
Activity: Table Napkin Folding
1) From our lesson, choose two kinds of napkin folding that you
considered easy to make.
2) Do it step by step and be sure to document it well.
3) Next, try to make one or two (depending on you) napkin folding that
you considered elaborate to do.
4) Do it well and do not forget to document it fully. Be sure that you have
pictures (to submit later) as proof of your wo

V. Let us Apply
Let us find out if you remember the different steps for
some of the table napkin given. Arrange the following steps in making
the different table napkin. Choose the letter only. The following are

Aside from the different table napkin folding given in our lesson, there were other
napkin folding that you can readily find in books on FOOD and Beverage Services. Search
at least two or three more types of Napkin folding and practice making it. Follow the
procedures given. Document your work and prepare to submit it to your teacher. Enjoy
