III. Let us Understand
An ordinary table setting is enhanced with the used of appropriate accessories
and decorations. Accessories and decorations need not be elaborate. They are
things you can add to ordinary setting to create a pleasant atmosphere different
from our everyday setting. Table napkin is one example of accessories. Table
napkins give an
artistic effect to the simplest table setting. Napkins are made of paper or cloth. Sizes vary
depending on the type of table setting. In cocktail setting, smallest table napkin is used,12-
inch square of cloth (for luncheon napkins) while 18-inch square of cloth is used for
luxurious dinner napkins. Other napkins size may vary from 16-inches square or 21- inches
square.
Napkins can be placed on the plate, folded on top of the table, rolled, and inserted in napkin
rings or tucked into a glass. Our knowledge of various ways of folding napkin will be an
advantage in table setting. The following are some types of table napkins and how they are
done.
1) The Rectangle
a) Fold
the napkin to the top
b) Bring left side to the right
c) Fold again from left to right
2) The Peacock

a) Make a rectangular fold
) Take the left side and fold slantingly to the top.
c) Fold the upper left corner inside and when done , fold again.
d) Bring the lower right corner in and tuck inside the pocket -like flap. Make it stand.

a) Bring AB to CD.
b) Bring upper right and left corners down to meet center fold.
c) Fold lower right and left corners up to meet at top edge.
d) Turn over and over (by turning point facing you forward).
e) Lift upper layer of bottom corner closest to you to meet top corner.
