I. INTRODUCTORY CONCEPT
Holistically, culture includes everything made by man. Our identity and unique
differences reflect the kind of culture in our society. In this lesson, you will have a
glance on the understanding of culture, society, and politics. You will begin to realize
that you are connected to the social realities and phenomena based from your
actions, behavior, attitude within a society.

Refers to the complex whole which encompasses beliefs, practices, values, attitude,
laws, norms, artifacts, symbols, knowledge, and everything that a person learns and
shares as member of society.

SOCIETY
● Describe a group of people who share a common
territory and culture, and has a common rules and
regulations.
● Is formally defined as constituting a fairly large
number of people who are living in the same territory, are relatively
independent of people outside their area, and participate in common culture.

3 SOCIOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE

1. Structural functionalism – society as a complex whole composed of groups


working together to achieve stability.
● Argues that society is made possible by cooperation and independence.
● This view sees society as a system with parts, and these parts have their
respective function to perform.
2. Conflict theory​- society is composed of groups that compete for limited
resources.
● Instead of putting importance od social order, the conflict perspective sees
society as an arena.
● Conflict approach do not take the usual assumptions about nature ab\nd
ethos of conflict.
3. Symbolic interactionism – society is composed of people interacting
through the used of symbols.
● Symbolic interactionism does not deal with either order or conflict. Instead, it
explore the issue of meaning – making and why this is crucial in understanding order
or conflict as process that brought about society.
● The symbolic interactionist perspective would say symbols and meanings​.

1. Human infants come into the world with basic drives such as hunger and
thirst, but they do not possess instinctive patterns of behavior to satisfy them.
2. most city dwellers today do not have or need the skills required for survival in
a wilderness.
3. Culture is common between members of a group, meaning they all think and
behave the same way because they grew up in the same culture.
4. Culture is a complex system, made up of many parts that are interconnected
and related to each other integrated.
5. An organism adjusts to its environment. There is biological adaptation, which
