Audit

7
Competitive Analysis
and Audit 2017 - 2020
• Conducted a competitive analysis internally – using
format developed from a consensus process of best-in-
class SDOs
• Utilized third-party, independent consultant for audit
• Conducted:
• Thorough review of governing documentations (by-
laws, operating procedures, policies, etc.)
• Benchmarking of other best-in-class standards
organizations
• Interviews and surveys with member volunteers and
staff
• Findings were paired with recommendations to mitigate,
improve, the situation, or create opportunities for growth.

The Global Leaders in Materials Protection and Performance 8

Rationale
• Support Board of Directors strategic direction
• Standards help implement AMPP’s mission
• NACE was neither the market leader nor the
best-in-class for developing corrosion-related
standards
• Create ability to identify and capture new
standardization opportunities
• Desire to improve expressed by member
leaders
• Direct focus to areas which afford the greatest
opportunity for improvement
• Instill more rigor and restore customer
confidence

AMPP Transition Team
Recommendations - Research
Research Recommendation #2
Develop Member Driven Research Task Force:
a. Establish periodic focus groups on an as-needed basis, on committee identified
and determined research areas of interest.
b. Utilize crowdsourcing and/or surveys to poll members and pertinent program
committees and advisory councils on research areas of interest.
c. Produce task force output work products such as position papers that can be
shared with members and industry partners as education and marketing materials.

AMPP Transition Team
Recommendations - Research
Research Recommendation #3
Develop Joint Industry Research Initiative:
a. Establish a process to engage with industry on joint research studies (This could
include performing a benchmark analysis of how other organizations perform this
type of work.)
b. Identify industry research thrusts for common understanding as well as linkage
to the AMPP public policy and advocacy committee.
c. Develop ideas for non-academic research – linking owners and members to
technology areas with emphasis on more applied research.
