 The exam

The exam will consist in three parts

• Part 1: Short questions with answers to be chosen among a list of possibilities; more
than a single answer can be good; this serves to have access to the following parts;
marks: 0 to 15
• Part 2: Open questions: the students will write their own answers over a shorter list of
questions; more space for discussion; marks 0 to 18
• Part 3: oral exam (mandatory), with an eventual discussion of the report (not
mandatory)

 Part 1

• To be held in the classroom

• Duration between 15 min and 25 min
• We will use Microsoft forms (bring your own laptop)
• The questions will be about very basic topics
• You will pass to the second phase only if you get a mark above 11
• You will get the results a few minutes after the test is over

 Part 2

• Questions will be answered on sheets, with your pen, a calculator, a ruler and
nothing else
• Questions will require wider answers or they can be short problems, or again
drawings to be commented; in this case there is not a single right answer
• To be admitted to the oral part you should get at least 18, summing up part 1 and part
2
• At the end of these two parts you will get a first evaluation, affected by some
uncertainty, to be fixed at the oral exam (any misunderstanding, aspects deserving
further discussion will be analysed during the oral part)

 Part 3

• You are admitted to the oral exam if you get at least 18 in the first two parts.
• If you are satisfied with your mark you will get this mark and the exam is over
• In case something from the written part needs further evaluation, this will be carried
out during this part of the exam
• If your mark is around 18 you might be explicitly requested to have a deeper oral
discussion, but you will be advised in advance
• In case you have completed a report, this will be discussed during the oral part and
this can lead, in the best cases, to an increase of 2/3 points, in case you have some
brilliant ideas and you can sustain a good discussion about your tests; a poor
discussion can also lower your mark.
• The final report can be written in groups, as explained during classes, though you will
be asked to have a discussion as a single individual

 Remote exams

As from the message by the school deans, exams will be held in presence. In rare
situations remote exams are allowed. If this case applies to your situation, you are
kindly asked to send the instructor an e-mail with your name, ID code, your course, the
reasons why you can attend and, wherever possible, any documents supporting your
request. It is really important you answer this list of questions.
Priority will be given to the official exam, then remote exams will be managed
separately: you will receive an e-mail with all the instructions.
In case you have already sent an e-mail asking for the remote exam, please send it
again with all the required info.
