2 PURPOSE OF THIS DOCU MENT

This document is the manual for the Baze Content Services web page.
Baze Content Service is an online management application for subscription and management of
content to your BazePort system. The content subscription service is called BazePort Content
Service*.
- Video on Demand (VoD): rent movies and series for your BazePort system, manage the
subscriptions
- TopTV: rent high quality TV-series and documentaries
- Remote TV: Record and manage the recordings. Select the desired TV program(s) and it will
be recorded remotely and transferred to your BazePort system. (Suited for locations that have
low bandwidth). It is assumed that you have legal distribution rights on the content that you
use with this tool.
- News/sports feeds: Local and international news and sports clips. Each category is updated
several times a day.
- Podcast: subscribe to pre-configured podcasts or add any podcast source of your choice. New
episodes are transferred to your system.
*BazePort Content Service (BCS) server is a server hosted by Baze which contains a broad range of
content (movies, series, tv-shows, tv-recordings, news/sports-feeds, podcast subscriptions, etc).
Selected content is compressed by BCS and made ready for transfer to the internet-connected
BazePort server on your site.

3 INTRODUCTION

Baze Content Services is a service created for giving remote access to subscribers own TV content,
Movies and data files when not having the possibility of direct access to the source. E.g. when a
vessel or a rig is in areas where there is no TV satellite coverage.
BazePort Content Services (BCS) is a “server replication service” that transfers your content between
an onshore server based in a Baze Technology data service centre, or similar, and the vessel/offshore
installation.
The service can be used on both high speed and low bandwidth Internet connections. However, BCS
is built for low bandwidth and can be utilized on connections that have interruptions and are frequently
out of service. BCS can transfer medium and large files on small bandwidth connections without taking
up all the bandwidth when transmitting. Due to the amount of data intended to transfer other
broadband services than VSAT is unsuitable. This is due to the pay per megabyte transferred principle
in these services.

3.1 HOW DOES IT W ORKS

A BazePort server (hardware and software) is placed on board the vessel/ offshore installation, this
server contains the BazePort replication software. The BazePort replication software is also running
on the BazePort BCS server that resides onshore.
The BCS subscriber (vessel/offshore installation operator) can log into www.mybazeport.com and
select TV content to be recorded, upload files for transfer and use the send message feature for
sending messages onshore to offshore.
Selected content is then compressed by BCS and made ready for transfer. The file is then transferred
to the offshore BCS server. BCS makes use of unique Baze Technology software that allows the file to
be transferred in small bits/packages, allowing interruptions in the transfer without resending already
sent data packages. Note, unlike other remote-TV services, with BCS there is no streaming of media
being performed and therefore no bad connections or interruption in replay.

4 GETTING STAR TED

This section is a detailed description on how to get started using the Baze Content Services.

4.1 ACCESS TO BCS TOOL

Setting up recording for on board viewing can be done both onshore and offshore. Needed is Internet
access and a browser with access to: www.mybazeport.com , and a valid username and password.

4.2 LOGIN DETAILS

If you do not have a username and password, send an email to support@bazetechnology.com.

5 FUNCTION ALI TY

5.1 FRONT PAGE W ITH STATUS

After login you will be presented with your home screen. This screen will present you with the most
important status information. At the top of the screen there is a menu bar where you can navigate to
the other functions of BCS. The BazePort icon at the top left corner can be used to navigate back to
the home screen.

Server status will show a green icon if the server is online and a red icon if the server is disconnected.
You will also find a list of recording schedules, transfers in progress, queued transfers and recently
finished transfers. Hovering these lists with your mouse pointer will give you quick access to simple
modifications as edit and delete recording, schedules or prioritize and cancel pending transfers.

5.2 ORDER MOVIES ( VIDEO ON DEMAND)

Part of the Baze Content Services is the possibility to rent movies. Baze Technology has the
distribution rights to an on demand movie database and can offer a catalogue with both premier and
contemporary titles. Different subscription models are available. Ask Baze Technology or your
BazePort resale representative for more information.

Click on the Video on Demand button in the infobar on the top of the screen. Browse or search
through the movie library. Select a movie and order by clicking on the Order-button. (To cancel, click
on the Cancel-button).

5.3 TOP TV

Top TV is a new BCS library containing high quality TV-series and documentaries. Mainly produced by
BBC and ITV, but also with some US titles. Enjoy crime series like Sherlock, Whitechapel and Fear.
Get updated with the best documentaries in the world from BBC, and join the lads in Top Gear as they
embark on new adventures. That is just some of the content available on Top TV.
Click on the TopTV button in the infobar on the top of the screen. Browse or search throught the
library. Select a serie and order by clicking on the Order-button. (To cancel, click on the Cancel-
button).

5.3.1 OVERVIEW OF ORDERED CONTENT

Behind the top left button “My Top TV catalog” you will find all content ordered and already available,
or with pending transfer, on/to your onboard server / BazeBox.

5.3.2 NUMBER OF RENTALS US ED

Below this button there is an overview of used and available rental slots. This overview may look
different depending on what subscription model you have. Different subscription models are available.

5.3.3 SEARCH AND FILTER

To filter Top TV entries, choose the genre of your choice in the list to the left, or search with free text in
the text box at top. You can search within title and description (default) or just title. You can also
choose whether to sort entries by date added (Newest first) or by title (ascending).

5.3.4 ADJUST VIEW TO LOW BANDW IDTH

If you are browsing through a limited bandwidth connection, check the top right checkbox “Low
bandwidth”. When checked, posters and thumbnails will be downloaded on lower quality, to minimize
data traffic.

5.4 REMOTE TV

Through an easy to use browser based application the administrator can select TV content from an
electronic program guide (EPG). The administrator can select the desired TV program for recording,
just as it is done on any common Personal Video recorder / decoder (PVR). The administrator can
select a single TV program recording, or set up a recurrent schedule.

BCS allows for recording of TV content remotely. In simple terms one can say that the BCS remote
TV service only has increased the distance between the recording and the viewing of the programme.
The elapsed time after recording the TV programme is recorded, and until it is ready for replay on
board, depends on the number of kbps available in the on board VSAT connection. And also on how
much bandwidth is dedicated for other tasks than BCS. Recorded TV programs are compressed to
approx. 300 MB per recorded hour in medium quality, 150 MB per recorded hour in low quality and
550 MB per recorded hour in high quality.

Selecting TV program for record is an administrator task, not for every crewmember with access to a
BazePort unit.

5.4.1 REMOTE TV (START RECORDINGS)

To record a broadcast you select and click the desired program from the program guide. BCS will
respond with a confirmation message and a red dot on the selected program.
To make a serial recording you select and click the same program one more time. BCS will confirm
this action with an elongated red dot. A repeating record schedule will record consecutive programs
with the same name and within a timespan of two hours of original broadcast. If it is a rerun marked
with (R) or the description indicates an episode previously recorded, the program will not be recorded.
If you select and click the same program one more time, the recording will be cancelled.

5.4.2 SEARCH TV LISTINGS

The “Search TV listings” menu can be used to search for a specific show and/or a show description.
This gives a much faster way to schedule recordings for known programmes.
The result list will also include previously aired matches, allowing you to create a repeating schedule
even when no match is within the reach of current EPG data. If other customers have recorded a
previous broadcast you can order that/those broadcast(s) from the search results.

5.4.3 AVAILABLE RECORDINGS

All recordings ordered by other sites/customers will be available to each site that has a valid
subscription for the relevant channel. These pre-compressed recordings will only be available at the
quality-level(s) ordered by other sites. Since these files are already processed, the transfer will start
immediately after ordering.

5.4.4 RECORDING SCHEDULES

In this section you can edit and delete recording schedules. You can also see last recording
occurrence of each schedule and the next planned recording, if any (yet).
The schedules are dynamic and smart, so the next planned recording is not set before an actual
match is found in the EPG data. This means that the schedules are not locked to a specific day and/or
time, but searches the available EPG data continuously for matches by an advanced algorithm. This
will assure that the correct programme is recorded even in case of changes in the broadcast-program.
The recording algorithm also takes care of skipping re-runs and already recorded episodes.

5.5 NEW S AND SPORTS

Baze Technology can provide local and international news and sports clips. Each category is updated
several times a day and is encoded to be very “low-bandwidth friendly”.

5.6 PODCAST

BazePort 5 has a built-in podcast player, but to save/have control over bandwidth usage, all podcasts
must be ordered through Baze Content Services. You can either subscribe to pre-configured podcasts,
or add any podcast source of your choosing.
The BCS server looks for new episodes on a regular basis and new podcasts are then transferred to
the on-board server with the same transfer technology as content provided by Baze Technology.

6 TECHNI C AL REQ UIREMENTS

Below is a description of technical requirements in order to get Baze Content Services.

6.1 VPN

It is necessary to establish a permanent VPN connection between the client installation and Baze
Technology.
Baze Technology will cooperate with your local IT department to establish this connection.

6.2 BANDW IDTH AND BANDW IDTH TROTTELING

The service can be used on both high speed and low bandwidth Internet connections. However, BCS
is built for low bandwidth and can utilize on connections that have interruptions and are frequently out
of service. BCS can transfer medium and large files on small bandwidth connections without taking up
all the bandwidth when transmitting. Due to the amount of data indented to transfer other broadband
services than VSAT is unsuitable. This is due to the pay per megabyte transferred principle in these
services.

BCS has also built-in bandwidth throttling that can be enabled at your convenience. The throttle can
be enabled and disabled by schedule and/or have different limits at different time of the day.
In the example above, the bandwidth utilization is limited to 32 kbps between 07:00 and 19:00 UTC.
And throttling disabled between 19:00 and 07:00 UTC. Multiple schedules/periods may be created.
The bandwidth throttling configurator is located in the “Settings” section.
