1. Nail polishes
a. Base
coat - A liquid product applied to the nail plate before
applying the liquid nail polish or color enamel to
prevent discoloration.

- Allow your nail polish to glide on smoothly

- White or platinum base coat can be used

b. Nail polish or color enamel

-Apply to give color to

the nail
-Apply twice over the
base coat

c. Top coat

- Apply last over liquid nail

polish
- Protects the polish
against chipping or
cracking
- Apply to ensure that a
manicure will last
2. Nail dotters

-This is used to create dot and circle patterns

(example is create simple polka dot designs)

-They come in a variety of sizes to choose from

depending on the size of the dots you want to
create.

Tips and Warnings

Be careful not to use too much pressure that may cause the dots to look
deformed. Remember to clean them after use and dry thoroughly. These
tools are made of metal and susceptible to rusting.

Glitering Ideas

If you don’t have nail doters, you can use bobby pins.
3. Nail stripers

-These are nail polishes that come with a long, thin

brush rather than the usual flat and broad ones.

-It is used for painting lines and adding random flicks

of color.

Glitering Ideas

If you don’t want to buy a new polish every me you want to try another
color, you could alternavely get a nail striper brush. You can use water-
based nail paint which makes the nail striper brush easier to clean. If you’ve
used nail polish, use acetone, some soap water and a paper towel to clean
your brush

4. Stationery tape

-This tape can be used in creating

super neat straight lines and stripes.
Any sort of normal scotch tape is fine,
but you can experiment and see
which one gives the best results.
They’re great for creating neat lines
and geometric shapes. Just cut the
tape into the desired strip/shape,
paste it onto your nail and paint over.

Tips and Warnings

Always make sure that base coat is thoroughly dry. Cut the tape before you
start painting your nails so you avoid smudging

Use tweezers to remove the tape to prevent accidentally messing up your nails.

If you mess up, you don’t have to start from scratch again. Use a nail art
brush and touch up where necessary.

Importance of Nail Maintenance Practices

Nail care, the maintenance of the fingernails and toenails, is important for health
as well as cosmetic reasons. Good nail care can prevent fungus infections of the nail,
painful ingrown fingernails and toenails, and infections of the skin in the hands and
feet. It is especially important for those with diabetes, as infections of the feet are
dangerous.
How to Care for Your Nails
• Keep them short and trimmed (in the shape of the fingertip for fingernails; straight
across for toenails).
• Keep your hands and feet and their nails clean; change your socks daily and wear
pool shoes, flip-flops, or other protective wear when in places like public pools or
gym showers where you could get a fungal infection.
• Don't bite nails or pick at them or the cuticles.
• Also avoid tight shoes and artificial nails.
• Diabetic patients are often recommended to go to a podiatrist to care for and check
their feet and toenails.
Many nail products are regulated as hazardous waste. Though these materials
are safe enough for everyday use in your spa, they still require special disposal, for
they are hazardous. When they are poured down in the sink, onto the ground, into
storm drains, or put out with the regular trash, they can harm people and the
environment.
Because hazardous waste management is complex, the most important thing
to do is to make sure a compliance program is set in place.
There are several best practices for segregating, bagging, and storing hazardous waste
that will help ensure the safety and compliance of your waste management program.
a. Properly seal items. Prior to storing any hazardous waste items in a bin,
place them individually in a sealed plastic bag to keep them from commingling
and causing a reaction.
b. Label containers properly. Once the initial item is placed within a bin, label
the container as hazardous waste, and include the accumulation start date.
c. Scout a safe storage area. Store accumulation bins in a dedicated,
permanent, clean, and neatly organized hazardous waste area.
Good Practice
• Set up a recycling station in your workplace and make sure you can separate
the main types of waste you produce. Make sure staff use it and encourage
clients to use it, too. This will allow you to reuse or recycle key materials. Once
you can see what types of waste you produce, and what makes up the most of
your waste, you can take steps to reduce waste. You can look at ways to avoid
producing waste in the first place
