What Happens After You File a Civil

Claim Against Another Person?

Have you ever wondered what happens after you file a civil
claim against another person? In this blog post, we will
break down the steps you can expect to encounter.

First off, the court will serve a copy of the complaint

and a summons on the defendant when you file a
civil claim against them. A summons is a legal
document that notifies the opposite party that they
are the subject of a lawsuit and have a set amount
of time to react. After that, the opposing party will
have the chance to respond to your complaint or
submit a motion to dismiss the case. The case will
move on to the discovery phase, where both parties
exchange information and case-related material, if
the other party submits an answer.

The parties may also take part in mediation during

the discovery phase in an effort to resolve the
dispute before trial. If the dispute cannot be
resolved, the matter will move forward to trial,
where a judge or jury will hear the testimony and
render a verdict. The losing side may decide to
appeal the verdict to a higher court after the trial.
To guarantee that your rights are upheld and that
you receive just compensation for your damages,
you must engage with an experienced lawyer
throughout the entire process.
