ENGLISH IV UNIT 6 THE WOMAN WHO HAD A DREAM.

Reading

Susan Boyle, was born in 1961. She is a singer from a small town in
Scotland_____________________after appearing in the programme
Britain’s Got Talent, ____________________”I dreamed a dream”
from the musical Les Miserables.
Susan,__________________, was the youngest of eight children in a
musical family. __________________she was diagnosed with learning

They are used to give more information about nouns.
Defining relative clauses Non-Defining relative clauses
They give a definition or specify which person or They give additional information that is separated

Marilyn Monroe was born as Norma Jeane Mortenson
in Los Angeles, USA on June 1, 1926. She was an
actress, model, and singer. She was introduced to a
photographer from the First Motion Picture Unit and
began a successful pin-up modeling career. By 1953,
Monroe was one of the most marketable sex appeal
Hollywood stars. Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and How
to Marry a Millionaire were the comedies which
established her star image as a "dumb blonde".
Monroe won a Golden Globe for Best Actress for her
work in Some Like It Hot (1959), which was a critical
and commercial success. Monroe's troubled private
life received much attention. She struggled
with substance abuse, depression, and anxiety. On
August 5, 1962, she died at age 36 from an overdose
of barbiturates at her home in Los Angeles. Although
Monroe's death was ruled a probable suicide,
several conspiracy theories have been proposed in the
decades following her death.
Lee Jun-fan known professionally as Bruce Lee, was born
in San Francisco, California on November 27, 1940. When
he was one year old his family went back to Hong Kong
where he was raised in Kowloon until his late teens. His
father was an actor. In 1946, Bruce participated in some
films with his father. He moved to the United States at
the age of 18 to receive his higher education at
the University of Washington, in Seattle, and it was
during this time that he began teaching martial arts. He
was a Hong Kong and American actor and martial arts
instructor. He trained in the art of Wing Chun. He is often
credited with helping to change the way Asians were
presented in American films. He married Linda, who was
one of his students, and had two children: Brandon and
Shannon. He died in Kowloon Tong on July 20, 1973, at
the age of 32. He died from an allergic reaction to a
tranquilizer used in painkillers. Lee is widely considered
by commentators, critics, media, and other martial artists
to be one of the most influential martial artists of all
times, and a pop culture icon of the 20th century.
