The octane number is one of the important parts of changing the fuel from poor

quality to high quality. And it is the characteristic of a fuel and strongly depends
on the hydrocarbon type. Addition of oxygenates, such as tetra-ethyl lead
C8H20Pb, tert-amyl methyl ether C6H14O, to fuels can improve ignition and
combustion efficiency, stabilize fuel mixture, protect the motor from abrasion and
reduce pollutant emissions. Emission from gasoline engines seriously threatens
the environment and is considered as one of the major sources of air pollution
which can cause serious health problems. Nanomaterials can act as a burning rate
catalyst because when added to liquid fuels, they accelerate the burning rate and
promote clean burning. For example, Nanoparticles of CeO2 have been tested for
use as a gasoline additive to enhance combustion. The aim of the present paper is
to develop the research octane number of gasolines using amino-functionalized,
multi walled nanotubes (MWNTs). Therefore, we are mainly concerned with
functionalization of carbon nanotubes containing amine groups by modifying the
MWNTs with two different amines. These additives also can decrease the
hazardous such as particular matter (PM) and carbon monoxide (CO) emissions to
environment. As the researcher’s research to many materials with different
temperature the octane number will increase by adding amido-functionalized
MWNTs to the gasoline. In addition, the effect of octadecyl amine used for
functionalization of amido-functionalized MWNTs for increasing the octane
number of the gasoline is more than that of dodecyl amine. Moreover, increasing
the number of additives leads to increasing octane number. However, the adding
of the additives, have to be up to 7 ppm, because for more than this amount, the
solubility of functionalized MWNTs is not permanent for a long period of time.
And also, as the researchers showed that the gasoline including the additives is
stable for more than 8 weeks.
