AMADEUS Training Written Report

Today's travel market has grown into a global marketplace for sellers and buyers to
transact travel services as a result of the tourism industry's rapid expansion. Global
distribution systems provide tourism and travel companies with the options of e-ticketing,
travel e-commerce, seat selection, and the capability for agents and airline staff to view all
fares on a single screen. It's interesting to consider that GDS airline companies can book a
variety of services through a single GDS, including simple bookings as well as one-way and
roundtrip airline tickets, hotel rooms, rental cars, tours and packages, cruises, insurance,
itinerary changes, international routings, and much more. The global distribution system
represents one of the most important distribution channels and Amadeus GDS is one of the
top ten travel technology companies in the world.

In regard to this, the BSTM 3A went through Amadeus training and assessment last
April 2023. The aforementioned training was provided by Skyways Travel and Tours,
ensuring that we, as students, are properly informed and have the necessary skills to
provide future airline and airport services.

The section was divided into two groups with different schedules The training took
place at West Visayas State University, specifically in the Center for Teaching Excellence
(CTE), which is located next to the CBM building.

1st day
The instructor gave us students a brief information about the presentation at the start
of the training. We were taken by surprise on how the lecture was introduced because we
had no prior knowledge of the command codes or other terms used in GDS. Nevertheless,
we were somewhat excited to learn something new and felt prepared for this challenge
because it would be a stepping stone in developing professionals in the tourism industry who
are capable of competing on a global scale.

To begin the practical training, the instructor granted us access to Amadeus, a

Computer Reservation System (CRS). We began encoding a given command entry to
identify places, airlines, businesses, and equipment in the data that correspond to the
command entry. They walked us through each step of how to use various command entries
to find specific airlines, nations, airports, and much more.

The instructor gave us an exercise to wrap up the first day of training and review
what we had done initially. With our determination, we were able to give an answer to the
exercise accurately.

2nd day
We began our second session as a continuation of our first training day by encoding
the availability display command. For a flight to be included in the display, at least one
service class must be offered for sale or be on a waitlist. A status code can be found next to
each service class. The number of seats available were indicated by the status codes. We
searched for non-stop, direct, or connecting flights for each route and encoded the
availability for a round-trip flight or for two city pairs using a single entry ticket that
corresponds to the example given. After checking flight availability, we took down the
passengers' names and their relevant details.

As a review for the day's lecture and to get us ready for the assessment, we did
another round of exercises. I found the lecture to be a little challenging because there were
numerous commands that needed to be encoded and because there occasionally weren't
any flights available on a given day based on the exercise that was given.

3rd day
The final training session before the assessment. On this particular day, we learned
how to use the Special Service Request (SSR) form to request a special service for a
passenger, such as a wheelchair, a specific seat, or a special meal. There were only two
fields in each SSR entry: the SR transaction code and a 4-letter service code that identified
the request. The Amadeus platform's interactive seat maps allowed us to navigate which
seats were unavailable and charged, which was the best part of this session. Amazingly, it
resembles a schematic model of a real plane.

Assessment
The instructor provided us with an exam sheet on the assessment day that contained
the same methods as those we completed on the training day, but in an alternate context.
We did not anticipate that it would take so long to complete. We initially had trouble
understanding the instructions, but eventually we were able to figure things out. However, as
the time limit drew near, we became anxious, but eventually we kept our composure and
finished the assessment.

Even though it was only for a brief period of time, the Amadeus training was truly an
experience. While we were being challenged by the session, it was interesting, engaging,
and fun for us. My understanding of the realities of the relevant industry and working in
tourism has increased as a result of this training. The training was somewhat exhausting, but
I'm confident that if I end up working in this field in the future, I'll enjoy it because I'll be
assisting people who are interested in travel and tourism-related services for their own
benefit.
