Nowadays, as technology has advanced, academic integrity has gradually risen in

importance. People did not previously have these many information-gathering tools as
we do today, like search engines, social media, etc. These kinds of materials enable
students to complete essays or answers quickly and correctly by simply copying and
pasting, which negatively impacts students' capacity for independent learning. In
addition, fairness is also a further factor that emphasizes the importance of academic
integrity. For instance, the test results that other people obtain by studying hard, doing
assignments and reviewing, while you only get them through google or plagiarism,
which is so unfair and unjust. Academic Integrity can help us become more honest
people as well as better students.

What should we do to protect academic integrity at the university, given its

importance? To retain my Academic Integrity, there’s a list of things in my mind that I
should or must do. Firstly, the most important for me is that try my best to attend every
class on time and complete my assignments independently. However. if there's a
problem which is challenging for me, I might consult my friends or look it up online, but
only after making sure I fully understand the solution. Secondly, never use exam
cheating methods. It will not help you at all and it's just a way of self-deception because
eventually, you need to face who you really are. The rest is some basic things like no
lying, no direct copy from online, etc.

There are so many things I need to be mindful of as a first-year university student, and
I do believe there's still a significant difference between high school and university in
terms of academic integrity. We need to be more autonomous and have the ability of
self-control especially for international students who live far away from our hometown.
Since no one will force us to study but ourselves, the only option for us is to maintain
our academic integrity and do our best. In high school, teachers would likely assist you,
however, in university, we need to do everything independently, including consulting
questions, avoiding the temptation to cheat and doing other unhealthy things. I hope I
will do better and develop into a more honest person in the future.
