Title of the Short Film: ALIKE

Directions: WATCH the short film, ALIKE( It is uploaded in the

group chat). In 300 words, discuss the value and lesson/s that the
film suggest.

The short film entitled ALIKE is a story of creativity or creative minds. As you can observed in the
film, most of the people are coloured black and white which means that their life is dull and lack of
life. The makers of the film showcase various emotions through the use of colour and demonstrate
how contemporary society affect our quality of life. In addition, a person's happiness decreases with
pallor, which is similar to how we experience and process emotions in real life. This short film also
illustrate how people can improve their lives and change their colours, simply by devoting more time to
the little things that make them happy, and joyful rather than simply striving to meet the standards set
by the society. As you can observed in the film, every time the young character in the short film tries to
connect with his creative side, he is told to ignore his creativity and stick to the social norms. Sadly,
that is how most creative thinkers in this world are treated, and those who choose to pursue their
dreams are viewed as outliers. The father in this short film tries to educate his son the true meaning of
life, just like most fathers do. Even though the father tries to show his kid the proper way to live, he
ends up learning the most important lesson of all which is, to embrace his creativity to live a happy
life.

The lesson you could learn from Alike is that, clinging to social norms and prescribed paths does not
always lead to happiness. Rules are there to be followed, but we should also leave room in our lives for
other enjoyable activities. Most of us miss the significance of accepting the odd, crazy characteristics
that make us who we are. It's also significant to pursue our passions, to keep going for our goals, and
do more of what we enjoy. The intention of the ALIKE maker was to demonstrate to our parents that,
despite of their constant desire to do what is best for us, they occasionally make mistakes. Through
this brief animated film, they hope to persuade everyone that rather than encouraging children to stop

their creativity, we should instead help them embrace their individuality and let them design their own
life paths.
