Stony Brook Honors College Supplemental Essay

TheCollegeEssayGuy -- my most visited website over the past 5 months -- has an exercise called

BEABIES. It’s a value-forming exercise, intended to give college applicants (like myself) an

idea of what they want out of their higher education.

The three values I found?

Community, Cooperation, and Career

I wanted to find a small, tightly-knit community that would work to cooperatively achieve each

other’s goals: career, personal, and experiential. The Stony Brook Honors College emphasizes

each of these wishes, creating a welcoming environment that I’d be privileged to contribute to.

At Yang Hall, I’ll meet other honors students with unique and diverse interests. Through these

housing opportunities, I know that I’ll be exposed to a community that’ll persist throughout

college. And, through Interdisciplinary Seminars and Mini-Courses like Infectious Diseases, I’ll

acquire knowledge and develop connections that will transcend college and last a lifetime.

I’d also love to connect with faculty through the events and research that the Honors College

offers. I’d love to attend a Faculty Round Table with Professors Sitharaman and Blocker,

learning about their research in tissue regeneration and organization management. I would also

like to take advantage of URECA, working with faculty to research how 3D printing can create
molds for bone tissue. These collaborations would be an invaluable support to my future goals: a

career in medicine, and a Masters in Healthcare Administration.

With the connections, educational opportunities, and research that I’ll conduct, I’m confident that

I’ll contribute to, and learn from, the amazing environment at the Stony Brook Honors College.
