Q1: (a) The difference between Simple and compound interests
compounded annually on a certain sum of money for 2 years at 4% per
annum is Rs 5. Find the original sum. [3]
(b) Andrew’s car will travel 480 km on a full tank of petrol. He starts a
journey of 620 km with a tank which is half full. He wants to stop only
once for petrol. Between what distances from the start of his journey
must he stop for petrol. [1]

Q2: The tens digit of a number is x and the units digit is y. Hence the
value of the number is 10x + y.
For example, if x = 5 and y = 6, the number would be
10 X 5 + 6 = 56.
(a) When the digits x and y are reversed, the value of the number is
increased by 63. [2]
Show that y - x = 7.
(b) (i) The sum of the original number and the number with
reversed digits is 99. [2]
Show that x + y = 9.
(ii) Hence find the value of x and the value of y. [3]
