Conventions in This Manual

1. Word with gray background and black box is a button on the

interface, e.g. OK.
2. The keys on the instrument panel are represented by 【】，e.g.
【SAVE】.
3. Word with white background and black box represent software
menu command in Windows, and “→”is a separator between different
menu levels. e.g. File→Open means the command of selecting
“Open” under the “File” menu.
4. Word with gray background but without box indicates the name
of the control (choice box, input box, etc.) of the popup window on
the screen, such as the input box of File Name in the open-file
window.
5. The sign means special attention is needed here.
6. Besides the descriptions in the manual, some prompt messages
may show automatically in the use of the software. Please operate
accordingly.
7. The bitmap file in the operation manual is a graphics file with an
extend name as BMP file.
8. Interface of this software comprises of multiple parts or views. A
certain part will become the focus after it is clicked.
9. Window pictures for illustration in this manual are offered by the
WindowXP system. Window style or name of this software will be
slightly different when installed in other systems.
10. The software interfaces and photos in manual are only for
reference. There will be changes with software upgrade and
improvement of products. No further notice is provided.

Chapter 1 Brief introduction

The process software for reinforcing steel bar corrosion measurement

data (shorted as The Rebar Rust Test Data Processing Software) is
developed by Beijing ZBL Science & Technology Co., Ltd. The
software operates as a Window’s application program is mainly used
to process the Rebar rust test data obtained by ZBL-C3 which are
instruments for testing the corrosion.

The interface of this software is amity and convenient. The operation

method and interface are totally compatible with the Windows style.
The users familiar with the Windows system are easy to master this
software. It is especially designed for the users who work on
engineering inspection. The software can running on the computer
installed with Window95 or Window98, Windows Me, Windows XP,
Windows2000, Windows NT.

The software has the following features:

1) The management on engineering and object information,
including each measurement point data of all tested objects in the
project.
2) To figure out the graph of the detection data, the grey image, the
color gradation, the contour, the frequency map and statistical
results. To save all graphs as the bitmap format, in order to edit
them further by some other graph software.
3) To merge many rebar rust test data file into one file; to add or
delete the file conveniently; to modify measurement point data
conveniently .
4) Preview for printing and printout for the measurement data.
5) By Using a data transmission software, the Rebar rust test data
can be transmitted to a computer, in order to analyze and backup

further more.
6) To automatic generate the testing data table in the style of
Microsoft Excel (Ext.XLS).The information of the engineering
and object is registered in the table.

This software consists of four different type files, as shown in tab. 1.1.

Chapter 2 Installation, Running and

Uninstallation

The installation of the process software is similar with that of the

ordinary Windows software. The installation and preparation before
using the process software would be detailedly introduced in this
chapter.
All necessary files for installing this process software should be kept
in the CD or U-disk along with the instrument.

2.1 Installation

1. Please insert the CD or U-disk into the computer , find out the
“RustSetup.exe” file in the root directory and run it, the installing
guide to unzip the needed files as shown in (fig. 2.1), after
unzipping file finish, the InstallShield Wizard is automatically
started up (fig 2.2) to guide the user how to install the software.
After some minutes later, the welcome interface appears as
displayed in (fig. 2.3)
2. On the welcome interface if Cancel button is pressed to exit the
installing program, after Next button is pressed to appear the
customer information input dialog box as shown in fig2.4.

3. As shown in the fig. 2.4 customer information dialog box, after you
input user information and press the Back button, you can return to
welcome interface as shown in fig. 2.3, or press Cancel button to
exit installing program; Alternatively, you can press the Next button
to appear the selecting destination folder dialog box as shown in fig.
2.5.

4. As shown in the fig. 2.5 selecting destination folder dialog box, if

Browse button is pressed, you can select the destination folder, after
you complete setting the folder, you can press Back button to back to
fig. 2.4 customer information dialog box or press Cancel button to
exit installing program; Alternatively, you can press Next button to
appear settings review interface as shown in fig. 2.6.

5. In the fig 2.6 settings review dialog box, you can press the Back
button to back to selecting destination folder dialog box as shown in
fig. 2.5 or press the Cancel button to exit installing program;
Alternatively, you can press the Next button to start to copy files, the
screen can display the setup status dialog box as shown in fig. 2.7.
The copy file time is dependent on the computer hardware
configuration, from a few seconds to a few minutes. In this
processing, you can press the Cancel button at any time to exit the
installing program.
6. After the copy file completion, the installation completion dialog box
(fig. 2.8) is appeared, you can press Finish button to end installation,
A shortcut mode icon to start up this process software can appear in

both desktop and program group. When the installation is completed,

a dialog box of “restart computer at present” will appear perhaps,
please select this item, the computer system can automatically restart
again and complete installation.

all anti-virus software and firewall software etc., otherwise some

troubles maybe appear during installation.

2.2 Running

After install completion, you can use a mouse to choose step by step
Start→All Programs→Beijing ZBL→Rebar Rust Test Data
Processing Software→Rebar Rust Test Data Processing Software,
then run this process software. Besides, you can double click Rebar
Rust Test Data Processing Software icon to run this process software as
well.

2.3 Uninstallation

After releasing a new version of the software, if you want to upgrade

this software, first of all, the old version software has to be uninstalled.
There are two methods to uninstall:
1) The same as other application program in Windows, in “Control
Panel” , you can use a mouse to double click “Add or Remove
Program”, in the dialog box, then to choose the software what you
want to uninstall (Rebar Rust Test Data Processing Software), then
to click Remove button to startup installshield wizard, the rest
procedure is same as method two.
2) You can choose Start→All Programs→Beijing ZBL→Rebar Rust
Test Data Processing Software→Remove Rebar Rust Test Data
Processing Software, startup installshield wizard, later on, as
shown in the fig 2.9 installing option dialog box is appeared.

In the installing option dialog box, you can pitch on the third
option---Remove, if you press Cancel button, then the uninstalling
would not be carried out; if you press Next button, then start automatic
uninstalling; the uninstall progress is displayed in fig. 2.10, after the
uninstalling completion, as shown in fig. 2.11 dialog box is appeared,
you can press Finish button to complete the process software

uninstallation.

NOTE: If you already install this process software, when
reinstalling again, the installing option dialog box as shown in
fig.2.9 will be appeared, here the user can choose the first item
or the second item---Modify or Repair, then press Next button to
complete upgrade of this process software.

Chapter 3 Rebar rust test data processing

software

3.1 Introduce on the software interface

This software interface is made up of eight parts (see fig. 3.1): Title bar,
Menu bar, Toolbar, Status bar, Object Info. Area, Object List Area,
Data Area, Graph Area.

1. In the Title bar from left to right there are the software icon, name of
the current data file, software name and the three standard Windows
application buttons .The function of three buttons are
minimize, maximize/restore, close the program respectively.
2. The five menu items---File, Edit, View, Tools and Help -- make up

the Menu bar, as shown in fig. 3.1. With each menu item is clicked to
appear one rolling down menu, which consists of a series functions.
The five item’s submenus contain all functions this software
possesses. When some menu item are in a grey color state that
expresses that its current function is inactive.
3. The Toolbar are made up of a series of buttons, as shown in fig. 3.2 ,
each button can have one common-use function, although which are
already contained in command menu, for these common-use
commands, it is more convenient for the user to use toolbar buttons
to complete the related operation. If you make mouse stay at one
button for a moment, this button’s function tips can appear on the
screen automatically. When this button is grey color state that means
the current function button is inactive.

4. Status bar is used to display some short helping information.
5. Object Info. Area is used to display the currently selected object’s
information, which consists of Object No. , Dot Pitch of X , Dot
Pitch of Y, referring to fig. 3.3.

6. Object List Area is used to display the object and their validity in the
current file, as shown in fig. 3.4, The user can click the mouse’s left
button twice on the object to open the object files to analyse. The
user also can click the mouse’s left button on the Object No. or
Validity to sort the object files by ascending or descending order.

The user can click the mouse’s right button in the object list area, to
popup a menu as shown in fig. 3.5 in which the function is same as
the corresponding item in the edit menu.
7. Data Area is used to display the current object measuring point’s
original measuring data, as shown in fig. 3.6. If there is a “----”
display that means that there is no data. The user can modify the
measurement data easily if necessary.

8. Graph Area is used to display the graph of the current object. The
user can modify the style of the graph in the View menu item.

3.2 Menus

3.2.1 File menu

1．Open
By using this software, the user can open the data file which is
transmitted from the instrument to computer (the ext. is XS). After
opening data, as shown in fig.3.1, the corresponding data or
information can be displayed in the related area in the interface.

After the Open menu is chosen, the “open file” dialog box is appeared
as shown 3.7, the user can choose the wanted opening file folder from
the Look in, meanwhile choose the wanted opening file type from the
Files of type, the user can input the wanted opening file name in File
name or from file list frame to choose the wanted opening file, then the
user can press Open button to open the file.
Before the user open a new file, if the current file has been modified, an
“yes/no” save hint is appeared, if the user choose Yes to save the file;
whereas if choose No, to give up saving it; if the user choose Cancel so
that no any operation is carried out.
2．Save
The user can save the current data file.
3．Save as
The user can make the current opening file to save as a new file. After
the user choose Save as menu, the “save as” dialog box is appeared as
shown in fig. 3.8, the user can choose the wanted saving file folder in
the Save in frame, and input file name in the File name frame and press
Save button to save the file, or press the Cancel button to give up.
Before the user save the file, if there is a existed file with a same name,

then a dialog box is appeared to ask if you want to overwrite this file, if
the user choose Yes, so that the existed file is overwritten; if user
choose No, so that the saving is given up and the interface return as
shown in the fig. 3.8, the user can input a new file name again.

4．Save the selected objects

The user can save the selected objects of current file as a new file. The
user can choose the Save the selected menu, a dialog box is appeared
as shown in the fig.3.9, from the Objects list frame the user can select

one or more object, then press OK button, the “save as” dialog box is
appeared as shown in the fig.3.8, the user can input file name and press
the Save button to complete it.
5. Save bitmap

After choosing Save bitmap, a dialog box is appeared as shown in the
fig 3.10, the user can choose All objects or Current object in the range
and the style of the figure. There are 6 styles including Detection Data,
Contour, Color Gradation, Grey Image, Frequency Map and Statistical
Result. (by making a tick on the corresponding item to express pitch
on). After the choice completing, the user can press Cancel button to
exit it and give up creating bitmap or press OK button, the folder
choose dialog box is appeared (as shown in the fig. 3.11), the user can
choose the objective folder for saving the bitmap file, after the user
choose completed and press the OK button, a sub folder named as the
project name (if the project name is empty, which is named as Project)
will be created under the chosen objective folder, all of the bitmap will
be saved in this sub folder and the file name is default.

NOTE: The file name is defaulted as “object name-figure of
style. bmp”.
6．Export text
The user can save the current opening file as a text format file (ASCII
code) and can open it with Notepad or other software program. After
the user choose Export Txt, as shown in the fig. 3.8 “save as” dialog
box , the user can choose the wanted saving file folder in the Save in
box and input the file name in the File name frame, then press Save
button to save the file, or press Cancel button to give up.
The default file name is same as current opening file, for example, if the
current opening file name is rrr.xs, then the default file name is rrr.txt.
7. Import data
The user can convert data files with ext. name 802 into the format
which can be open with the software. After selecting into Import 802
Data menu, it will pop-up "open file" dialog box, the user can choose
the converting file folder from the Look in, input the converting file

name in File name or from file list frame to choose the converting file.
After clicking the Open button, the file can be converted into the XS
format and be saved. The name and saved position of the XS format file
are same with the data file. The XS format file can be automatically
open after the converting work.
8．Merge file
This function is mostly used to combine more than two XS files as one
file, to make the user manage the files more conveniently.

After the user choose Merge menu, as shown in the fig. 3.12’s dialog
box, firstly to press Browse button, choose one or more XS file, then
press Open button, the selected files to be merged can be displayed in
the Files to be merged list, then press Merge button, the “save as”
dialog box will popup, the user input the file name to be saved and then
press Save button, after that the selected files to be merged and saved
then exit.
In the merging file dialog box, if the user press Cancel button, so that to
give up file combination and exit. If user double click on the mouse left
button in Files to be merged list, then the list frame become empty, in
order to the user choose other data file else.

9. Print
After the user choose Print menu, the print dialog box as shown in the
fig.3.13 is appeared. Choose the object to be printed (All objects or
Current object), print contents(Data table, Detection Data, Contour,
Color Gradation, Grey Image, Frequency Map, Statistical Result)and
then press OK button, so that the selected contents of the selected
object in current file will be printed out. Or press Cancel button to give
up the print operation.

Besides, the user can choose whether or not to print Page Number, Page
Header, Page Footer, and can set up the content in the page header and
page footer.
10. Print preview
After the user choose Print preview , the print dialog box as shown in
the fig.3.13 is appeared, after the user choose the range and content to
be printed out and press OK button, the print preview interface can be
appeared for you to preview its print effect, Or press Cancel button to
give up the print preview operation.

The toolbar of print preview interface is displayed in Fig 3.14, Each

button function is the following: Print button is used to printout,
which is same as Print function in main menu ; Next Page button is
used to turn down the next page, when this button is gray color
(inactive), that means that the current page is the last page; Prev Page
button is used to turn up the previous page, when this button is gray
color(inactive), that means that the current page is the first page; Two
Page/One Page button is used to display two pages side by side at the
same time or to display only one page; Zoom In and Zoom Out
buttons are used to zoom in or zoom out display, when this button is
gray color(inactive), that means that it is impossible to zoom in or
zoom out, By using the mouse’s left button to click on the preview
interface the user can zoom in or zoom out display as well; Close
button is used to exit the print preview interface and return to the main
interface.
11．Print setup

Before print, the user can carry out print setup. After choosing Print

setup menu item, the “print setup” dialog box is appeared as shown in
the fig. 3.15, the user can choose printer model in Printer, choose paper
size in Paper, choose printout orientation (portrait or landscape) in
Orientation, then press OK button to make the setup to be effective; or
press Cancel , to give up the setup.
NOTE:This software is mainly available for A4 and B5
paper, if other paper is chosen, an abnormal print may be
appeared.
12．Exit
To close currently data file and exit the program. Before exiting, if the
data has been modified, a saving hint is appeared.

3.2.2 Edit menu

1. Project information
After the user choose Project information menu item, a dialog box is
appeared as shown in fig.3.16, the user can setup Project, Construction,
Examiner, Certificate, Report No. and so on, as the setup is completed,
you can press OK button to accept this input information; or press
Cancel button to give up this input information.
If the current project information is same as or similar to that of a saved
file, the user can press Read button and choose this file appeared in
“open file” dialog box and press Open button, the project information
of this file is read out and filled in the dialog box, the user can make a
slight modification or without modification, the user press Default
button to make the last saved project information read out and fill in the
dialog box.

The user can move the mouse to click the d button which locates
behind the Entrusting date term in the dialog box, the input date
interface can be appeared as shown in the Fig. 3.17, the input method as
following: 1)Using the mouse left button to click the year of the
interface(for example:2005 year) , it can be appeared as , the
user can press c、dbuttons to adjust year; 2) Clicking the e、f
buttons which locate at the two sides around the interface top, the user

can adjust month, or click the month ( for example: May) position to
choose month that appear in the month list; 3) Using the mouse to click
date number, the user can adjust date. Besides, the user can click any
position beyond the date input interface, then the interface is
disappeared and the date is updated.
All input date position in other dialog box or interface can be appeared
as shown in the fig. 3.17, the input method is same as well.
2. Options
After the user choose Options menu item, a dialog box is appeared as
shown in fig. 3.18, the user can setup Display mode ,The evaluation
rules of corrosion degree and so on, after the setup is completed, the
user press OK button to accept the setup; or press Cancel button to give
up the setup.

3. Add objects
This menu is used to make some part or all objects from other file to be
added to the current file, in order to manage them together.
After the user choose Add objects menu item, a dialog box is appeared
as shown in the fig. 3.19, firstly press the Browse button, from the

appeared “open file” dialog box choose a XS file, then press the Open
button, All objects of the selected file can be shown in the Objects list
frame, the user can choose the objects to be added from this list(the
object in blue color are pitched on), then press the Add button, so that
the chosen objects are added to the current file; or press the Exit button
to give up adding.

4. Remove object
This menu is used to delete the current object of the file that is listed in
Object List Area, before deleting, it can be asked that “whether or not to
remove the current object?”, if the answer is Yes to remove the object;
or the answer is No to give up removing the object.
NOTE: After the object was removed, which cannot be
recovered again, so that please pay your attention on deleting a
object. When there is only one object left in the file, which can’t
be deleted anymore.
5. Invalidate/Validate
This menu is used to set the object in the Object List Area as invalid or
valid.
NOTE:As printout, saving bitmap and saving summary are
carried out, only the valid objects at the current file are available.

3.2.3 View menu

1.Data table

After the user choose Data table menu, the table of the detection data
can be shown as fig.3.20 in graph area.
2.Figure of grey image or color gradation

After the user choose Grey image or color gradation menu, they can be
shown in graph area as fig.3.21 and fig.3.22. Grey image or Color
gradation can be determined by setting the Display mode in the
Options dialog box as shown in Fig 3.18. All of them can be classified
in 10 degree which are determined by the Max. voltage or Min. voltage

in the Options dialog box.

After the user choose Detection Data menu, the detection data can be
shown as fig.3.23 in graph area.
4.Contour graph
After the user choose Contour graph menu, the contour graph can be
shown as fig.3.24 in graph area. The rage and interval are determined

by the Max. voltage ,Min. voltage and Contour interval in the Options
dialog box.

5.Figure of frequency map

After the user choose Frequency map menu, the figure of frequency
map can be shown as fig.3.25 in graph area. Green means no corrosion,
blue means not clear and red completely corroded.
6.Figure of statistical result
After the user choose Statistical result menu, the figure of statistical

result can be shown as fig.3.26 in graph area. Green means no

corrosion, blue means not clear and red completely corroded.

7.Toolbar
This menu is mainly used to hide or display the toolbar, the system
default status is to display the toolbar (at the front of the menu item
there is a “√” to express displaying, without a “√” to express hide).
8.Status bar
This menu is mainly used to hide or display status bar, system default
state is display the status bar (at the front of the menu item have “√”
express display, not have “√” express hide).

3.2.4 Tools menu

1. Data transmission
After the measurement completion, the user can use this menu function
to make the measuring data stored in the instrument transfer to a
computer in order to carry out evaluation and keep them in an archive
file. The procedure is as following:
1) To connect the rebar rust detector’s USB port with a computer’s
USB port by using the special transmission line.
NOTE :Before connection, it is better to switch off the rebar

rust detector, not to do “Hot plug”, otherwise it maybe cause the

instrument to be damaged. As connection the transmission line
to a computer at the first time, computer can check and find a
new hardware, and need to install a driver, The detail operation
about how to install the driver is shown in the Appendix.

2) Running the rebar rust test data processing software under the
WINDOWS environment, the user can choose Data transmission
menu item, a dialog box can be appeared as shown in the fig. 3.27.
The user can set the model of rebar rust detector and choose
transmission port (the common default is USB), then press
Transmit button, a “save as” dialog box is appeared as shown in
the fig.3.28, the user can input a filename and then press OK
button. After that, the computer start to connect with the rebar rust
detector and the message window displays “Initial complete!”, the
computer is waiting for the transmission data from a rebar rust

detector, or the user press Exit to exit the transmission function.

3) When the user choose the Data Output item in the main menu of
the rebar rust detector and press 【Enter】 key to enter into the
data transmission interface, then press 【Enter】 key again to start
the measuring data transmission. Upon the data transmission is
completed, the data transmission dialog box (fig. 3.27) is
automatically disappeared and the rebar rust detector return to its
main menu interface. The operation on the rebar rust detector is
explained in the corresponding chapter in the manual.
NOTE: During data transmission, some correlation
message is displayed in the Message box. If the transmission fail
or some other error bring out, the system can give the
corresponding hints.
2. Export to Excel
The user can use this menu to generate the data tables of all valid
objects in current project. This operation requires a computer with
Excel97 or higher Edition.
Choosing Export to Excel menu, calling the Excel application program
generates all valid objects’ data table.

the user should not carry out other operations in the computer,
or it may cause abnormal phenomenon.

3.2.5 Language menu

1. Simplified Chinese
There’re two edition, simplified Chinese and English edition, of this
software. If choose this menu, the user can change to simplified
Chinese edition. If the current edition is simplified Chinese, then this
menu is inactive.
2. English
There’re two edition, simplified Chinese and English edition, of this
software. If choose this menu, the user can change to English edition.
If the current edition is English, then this menu is inactive.

3.2.6 Help menu

1. Help topics
The menu mainly offer the help for software operation, when the user
meets the problem in using the data process software, the user can
choose this item or 【F1】key, then press Contents or Index to find out
the solution in the appeared window.
2. ZBL Homepage
After choosing this menu item, the user can interlink to our company
internet Web homepage to know our company better.
3. E-mail to ZBL
After choosing this menu item, the user can use Outlook to send an
E-mail to our company to give us the feedback idea timely.
4. About
The menu to display company name, software name and version etc.

Appendix The installation of USB driver

All C3 series rebar rust detector manufactured by our company use the
USB port to carry out the data transmission. When the user to carry out
data transmission at the first time and the computer without
corresponding driver software installed before, first of all, the user must
install USB driver, otherwise the data transmission can’t be carried out.
Before the user begin to install USB driver, the user must get USB
driver supplied by our company at first. The driver software can come
from two ways: one way is the CD or U-disk attached by our company
as the user purchase our product, there is a corresponding driver
program; the other way is from our company internet web “Download
Center→Tools” page to download “USB driver” (this driver is an
compressed file).
If the user install the driver with a CD ROM, who should put the driver
CD into the CD-ROM, and find the “USB Driver” folder under the root
of CD, then enter into the folder and run the UsbSetup.exe, then operate
according to the hints step by step, the driver software will be install on
the computer automatically.
If you download driver from network, please unzip this driver file at
first to some folder of the computer, then enter the folder and run the
UsbSetup.exe.
NOTE: If you have installed the USB driver of our other
instruments, such as Digital Rebounder, Floor Thickness Tester,
etc., you have no need to install the driver software again,
because they have no difference between each other completely.
