Capturing new opportunities with 3S Strategy
Intelligent transformation takes place where devices and data center infrastructure work together to
create end-to-end solutions
First, Smart IoT, forms the essential texture for this connected world.
For Lenovo, Smart IoT means, first, our current devices become smarter – meaning they are always on
always connected, easy to collaborate with other devices, adaptive to your needs, with natural language
interactions, seamless cloud connection, and enhanced security and privacy protection.
Furthermore, majority of commercial devices today – factory machines, hospital equipment - are not yet
“smart”. This is a huge opportunity for us. We can provide this “as a service” – by embedding our
computing devices, including PCs and servers, modules and protocols – into a variety of devices to make
them “smart”.
Second, smart infrastructure, which provides the computing, storage and networking power to support
intelligence.
You often hear different terms for data centers, and that’s because Lenovo offers a rich portfolio of data
centers to support different needs of different customers – traditional data centers for enterprise core
applications; software-defined for customers who need better agility and flexibility; hyperscale for public
cloud companies; and high-performance computing for scientific computing and A.I. applications.
These are the four engines of our Data Center business.

Gartner’s Top 25 Supply Chain - an in-depth study of the world’s top 25 supply chains across all industries.
In 2023 Lenovo was named to the Top 25 for the 8th time, ranking at #9.
The Gartner Supply Chain Top 25 ranks companies across two main components.
- First, there is a quantitative review of business performance including both financials and
environmental, social and governance (ESG) data.
- Second, it focuses on qualitative opinions of Gartner analysts, peers and industry experts on the
respective leadership in the global supply chain community and future potential of each company.
In particular, the top 25 supply chains in the world have been ranked based on being purpose-driven organizations,
business model transformers and digital orchestrators.
In particular:
- Each of us recognizes our role and responsibility to solve some of the world’s largest problems
- Our ranking demonstrates our efforts to push traditional business operations in order to serve our customers in a
dynamic, competitive landscape
- We are all investing in the most advanced digital transformation technologies and capabilities so that we can
build predictability, visibility and agility into every element of our supply chain.
During the COVID-19 pandemic our inherent resilience continues to help us flex and adapt as we reposition supply
and rebalance production across 30+ manufacturing sites around the world.
Despite required factory closures, we’ve adapted with agility and speed to ensure we continue delivering to
customers.
In addition, we’ve put every measure in place to transform our manufacturing and protect our workers and used
every partnership with suppliers and logistics providers to bring continuity and stability to our operations.
Beyond our core operations, Gartner has cited our wider leadership as a key factor for this year’s rankings.

Key Pillars for a Strong Environmental, Social & Governance Structure
As a global technology leader, Lenovo has a responsibility to operate a globally sustainable business.
At Lenovo, Sustainability is the practice of managing the impacts of these three pillars - Environmental,
Social and Governance , otherwise known as ESG, in order to meet the needs of our stakeholders.
For many, the term “ESG” brings to mind environmental issues like climate change and resource
scarcity. These form an element of ESG—and an important one—but the term means much more. It
covers social issues like a company’s labor practices, talent management, product safety and data
security. It covers governance matters like board diversity, executive pay and business ethics.
As we manage our ESG impacts, we can identify opportunities to improve our strategy and decision-
making process, drive innovation and operational efficiencies, and reduce risks associated with climate
change and economic growth. All of these combined can contribute toward a more sustainable
economy and world.
ENVIRONMENTAL: Intelligently measure and mitigate climate change and environmental impacts
SOCIAL: Ensure all people are treated fairly and have the opportunity to succeed in a safe and inclusive
environment
GOVERNANCE: Promote our culture of integrity across Lenovo and our suppliers

Common components are used across the entire end-to-end data center server portfolio, allowing for
faster qualification times for testing new servers. This helps customers more easily integrate different
servers into their data centers and simplifies troubleshooting. The common parts allow for easier
servicing by a customer or warranty service technician, and fewer parts need to be kept as backups in
case of component failure. Some parts can even be switched from a working server that is less critical to
a more critical server in case of a failure.

The latest Intel innovation extends Intel® 3DXPoint™ media by placing it onto a DIMM, combining great
features found in both DRAM and NAND SSDs.
This innovative new solution, will move larger amount of data closer to the CPU, so it can be accessed,
processed, and analyzed in real-time (without first being retrieved from storage). Our product will be
performant, and comparable to DDR4 DRAM at low latencies. Additionally, we will have higher capacity
and data persistence features typically found in NAND SSDs. This means that customers can keep more
data, closer to the CPU for faster processing, and that data will remain in memory when the system is
power cycled.
This is the game changer for memory technology. Persistent memory technologies allow development of
products with the attributes of both storage and memory. The products are persistent, like storage,
meaning they hold their content across power cycles, and they are byte-addressable, like memory,
meaning programs can access data structures in-place. This allows for memory like performance with the
storage and capacity benefits of NAND.

Lenovo ThinkSystem servers contain an integrated service processor, XClarity Controller (XCC), which
provides advanced service-processor control, monitoring, and alerting functions. The XCC consolidates
the service processor functionality, super I/O, video controller, and remote presence capabilities into a
single chip on the server system
board. The XCC is based on the Pilot4 XE401 baseboard management controller (BMC) using a dual-core
ARM Cortex A9 service processor. XClarity Controller offers three functional levels: Standard, Advanced,
and Enterprise.
By default, SR-Series servers include XClarity Controller Standard features, and can be upgraded to
Advanced or Enterprise functionality by using the Features on Demand
(FoD) upgrades.
There are two ways to access the XCC management processor remotely:
• Command-line interface. To access the CLI interface, use SSH to log in to the management processor.
• Web-based interface. To access the web-based interface, point your browser to the IP address for the
management processor. The new intuitive interface includes at-a-glance visualizations and simple
access to common system actions. The dashboard is shown in the following figure.
The XClarity Controller provides remote server management through industry-standard interfaces:
Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) Version 2.0
Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) Version 3
Common Information Model (CIM)
Data Center Manageability Interface (DCMI) Version 1.5

84 AMD EPYC™ 9004 Series Processor Pre-Brief Deck | Embargoed until November 10, 2022
There are four key characteristics of 4th gen EPYC. The first is the performance that’s driven by Zen 4
cores. We have up to 96cores in a socket. And these are built on industry leading 5nm process node.
The combination of strong cores on leading edge node delivers performance leadership – both at the
socket level for throughput as well as per-core performance.
The second main feature of 4th Gen EPYC is leadership in memory bandwidth and capacity. 4th Gen
EPYC has 12 channels of DDR5 memory at speeds of up to 4800 MTS. That’s about 2.3X generational
uplift in memory bandwidth.
The third feature is next gen high speed IO. 4th Gen EPYC has up to 160 lanes of PCIe Gen 5 in 2 socket
configuration (128 PCIe Gen 5 in 1 socket configuration) - delivering 2X IO bandwidth generationally. 4th
Gen EPYC also implements CXL 1.1+ to deliver breakthrough memory expansion capability.
And finally, 4th Gen EPYC delivers additions to our Infinity Guard feature set that continue to drive
confidential computing. We’ve almost doubled the number of encryption keys to support 2X the
number of confidential VMs. We also extended our memory encryption feature to CXL attached
memory as well, so no matter which memory tier a customers data resides in, it continues to be secured.

Generation
Core Count
• Indicates Core Count within the Series
Let’s start with the first obvious item – why 9000 series. 4th Gen EPYC delivers a step function
advancement within the EPYC family – and we wanted to clearly demarcate that with our model
numbers. With 4th Gen EPYC, we are bringing to market 5nm process technology, Zen4 cores, DDR5
memory, PCIe Gen5 IO, CXL support – all in a new SP5 socket and at a completely new performance
level. We are using the model number increment as a way to communicate that easily to customers.
(Second element is – why not 8004 series. And the answer is fairly straightforward - we are planning
use 8000 series for a future product line. Hence we picked 9000 series.)
Moving to the hundredths digit – there is a mapping between this digit and core count; making it easy
to identify the core count in a model.
The tens digit identifies the performance rank within the core count – so higher number indicates
higher performance.
We decided to keep all the feature modifiers at the end of the series to allow for easy identification of
the special features.

Now let’s turn to double click on the product that delivers all of that performance. This slide has the
overall 4th Gen EPYC product stack.
Our approach to SKU stack design is to be very focused on the customer – to keep it clean and simple;
and give complete choice so customers can get all the features no matter where they land on the stack.
The result of this approach is the SKU stack on the right – total 18 SKUs. 14 dual socket parts and 4
single socket parts. The ones that are shaded blue are per-core performance optimized parts and we
have 4 of them.
We’re showing the core count, base and boost frequencies, default TDP and configurable TDP range for
each SKU. That cTDP range is something our customers can set through the BIOS and gives them an
option to run the part at higher or lower power level depending on their power and performance needs.
When we look at 2P stack, we have one 96c SKU – with a default TDP of 360W that is configurable up to
400W. You’ll notice the base frequency is almost the same as 3rd Gen EPYC 64c even though we have
50% more cores here; and the boost frequency at 3.7 GHz is 200 MHz higher than 3rd Gen EPYC TOS.
And that’s something you’ll see across the stack – we’re delivering nice frequency uplifts from 3rd Gen
EPYC.
Below that we have an 84c SKU that is at a lower TDP, so targeted where a customer wants the core
density and high performance but also wants high perf/W.
Next, we have two 64c SKUs – one with a TDP of 360W and another at 280W TDP. 9554 is a really
interesting part – with very nice frequencies – 3.1 GHz for base and 3.75 GHz for boost. It delivers high
perf/core and high perf/W and a substantial lead against the best part from our competition.
86
2023 Lenovo Internal. All rights reserved. EM2.0
Below that we have two 48c SKUs – one SKU that’s optimized for core performance and
another that’s targeted for balanced TCO at lower TDP. 9474F is another interesting part. It
has excellent frequencies and delivers really nice performance per core! This part has a Spec
Int rate of 1090, so we’re expecting this to be positioned very nicely against Xeon.
Next, we have three 32c SKUs and three 24c SKUs - offering a per-core performant part, a
balanced performant part and a value part.
And finally, we have two 16c SKUs. The frequencies of our per-core performance optimized
parts are really great – with 16c coming in at 4.4 GHz boost frequency.
Turing the features, all of the leading edge features of 4th Gen EPYC are available up and
down the stack. Starting with the memory channels and memory performance – that’s the
same across the stack. The number and performance of PCIe lanes is constant. Our infinity
fabric number of links and performance is constant across the stack. Number of CXL lanes
are constant as well. And our security features are present in all of the products as well.
(One comment about memory capacity – the 2TB for 2P system is based on 2DPC. 90%+ of
systems that our partners have designed are 1DPC – given them we have 12 memory
channels – that covers almost all of the workload needs. In terms of platform availability, we
will have 1DPC platforms available in Q4 and 2DPC platforms in Q1 23.)
(Turning to security, the EPYC 9004 series expands on the AMD Infinity Guard security
feature set continuing to add layers for both physical and virtual security. Currently, EPYC
CPUs offer leadership security features like Secure Encrypted Virtualization - Secure Nested
Paging (SEV-SNP), and Secure Encrypted Virtualization - Encrypted State (SEV-ES) memory to
enhance virtualization security. In addition, the EPYC 9004 series will support SME-"Multi
Key“ (SME-MK) and will have more keys, longer keys and a new 256 AES-XTS encryption
mode along with FIPs certified SKUs.))

When you combine the features and the performance, 4th Gen EPYC is the best data center CPU in the
industry. It is the fastest processor that delivers socket and per core performance. It delivers leadership
energy efficiency. And that combination drives best TCO across workloads. And it provides security
features that enable confidential computing. And all of that comes with a broad ecosystem of solutions
so our customers can deploy more readily and get to value faster.

comparing socket level throughput performance. Second, to look at per core performance that’s
important in the enterprise. Third, to look at performance of key workloads and dominant applications
across market segments. And last, what does all of that performance mean in terms of TCO and helping
enterprises achieve their sustainability goals.
Underlying all of these is the exceptional energy efficiency of 4th Gen EPYC. 4th Gen EPYC delivers
leadership performance in a highly power efficient way – and that’s a tremendous value to our
customers. If they’re in legacy data centers they can get more performance out of their power/cooling
infrastructure; and in a modern data center, they can get all the performance they want while lowering
their energy costs.
We’re going through a moment in time when there are two strong trends that are intertwined forcefully
– first is the price of energy that continues to rise steeply; and second is the carbon footprint associated
with energy production and that continues to contribute to climate change. With that backdrop, 4th Gen
EPYC is a product that meets the moment perfectly. It delivers performance efficiently, so you don’t
have to compromise on performance but can still reduce energy costs. And that efficiency translates to
lower carbon emissions as well.

CXL 1.1 Support CXL - Compute Express Link
CXL is a new protocol which runs over PCIe, without affecting normal PCIe functionality.
CXL 1.1 is supported on V3 servers, and allows expansion of memory in non-DIMM form factors.
Examples include DRAM or PMem packaged as EDSFF E1.s or E3.s drives.
Add-in-Cards can be inserted in standard PCIe slots, and can hold standard DIMMs.
CXL also allows high speed communication between CPUs and peripheral memory. PCIe Gen5 x8 will
match DDR5 speeds.

Dynamic Disk Pools (DDP) technology consists innovative method of: (1) greatly simplifying storage
management; (2) making the addition or loss of drives a nonevent; and (3) significantly reducing the time
to recover from a drive loss versus with traditional RAID (minutes versus days).
DE-Series supports hybrid systems with mixed flash and rotating disk. SSD cache is a feature that is
designed to accelerate HDD data access by caching highly read data on SSD automatically.
Snapshot copies and views allow multiple recovery points or the use of production data for testing and
development.
Thin provisioning is used for capacity-optimized configurations and eliminates guessing on how much
capacity that some volume is really going to need.
Mirroring and replication support both synchronous and asynchronous mirroring and replication.
Encryption is AES-256 with a local key manager saves the (often significant) cost of an external key
manager and is now an included feature of the Lenovo SAN Unified Manager

One of the great benefits of DM Series is the seamless data management capabilities it offers customers.
While there are multiple features we can discuss these are the 3 main characteristics that are valuable
for data management.
Unified:
Simple management of both block and file workloads
System consolidation
DM advantage: all features retained under both block and file workloads
Storage Efficiencies:
- inline deduplication, compression and thin provisioning and compaction greatly optimizes a
customer storage environment and reduces the need for more physical storage.
- . The storage efficiencies on DM will not compromise the performance of the system and these
efficiencies will be retained when data is replicated or tiered to the cloud.
Lastly the features in place that simplify and streamline operations for overloaded IT teams. The intuitive
GUI, ThinkSystem Storage Manager which allows IT admins Instantaneously set up a system and cluster
in under 10 minutes with little storage know how. Reducing the need for highly trained storage
specialists enlisted for Storage setup- Mention St. Joe’s here.
. The onboard feature, SnapCenter offers application aware snapshot capabilities that ensure simple and
fast recovery of data
Simple:
• The SnapCenter centralized GUI supports monitoring, notification, logging, reporting, and scheduling
for all plug-ins from a central interface.

Setting your own performance rules for individual workloads - QoS
Storage quality of service (QoS) can be used to deliver consistent performance by monitoring and
managing application workloads. The storage QoS feature can be configured to prevent user workloads
or tenants from affecting each other. The feature can be configured to isolate and throttle resource-
intensive workloads. The feature can also enable critical applications to achieve consistent performance
expectations. QoS policies are created to monitor, isolate, and limit workloads of storage objects such as
volumes, LUNs, files, and SVMs. Policies are throughput limits that can be defined in terms of IOPS or
megabytes per second (MBps).
For All Flash DM, QoS policy is expanded to include minimum thresholds and available maximum limits.
Adaptive QoS (AQoS) enables IOPS per volume to automatically increase or decrease based on volume
capacity changes. You can choose from three policies (Extreme, Performance, and Value) to ensure the
most efficient use of storage resources.

Datacenter deployment model is evolving
Software Defined
Customize Standardize Optimize Transform
IT infrastructure & operations have been evolving to support this business transformation. As the
volume and frequency of IT demands increased over time, the industry sought ways to accelerate and
simplify IT Operations to keep up with demand.
• Traditional IT infrastructure was often complex to manage, with highly customized architecture and
integration typically designed to support silo’ed workloads.
• Converged Infrastructure helped standardize infrastructure architecture with prescriptive guidance
and packaged integration, which helped simplify workload consolidation onto shared infrastructure
that was predictably configured to enable more automation.
• Hyper-converged Infrastructure further optimized IT operations by combining compute and storage
resources into a pre-integrated platform, eliminating the complexity of storage networking while
further reducing the administrative burden and automation endpoints.
• The transformative emergence of Cloud infrastructure and operations, whether delivered on- or
off-premise, brought the value of fully-integrated and automated IT delivery as-a-service. This
practice dramatically improved IT resource-sharing and enabled the business to more rapidly obtain
the IT resources needed for their applications and services.
• These Core IT Operations typically occurred within the business’ own data centers or other IT
providers; however, the increasing digitalization of business driven by the expanding data economy
has led to more Distributed Edge IT Operations that occur closer to the data sources themselves,
where data can be quickly collected and refined across many locations before consolidating into
core data centers. This data is typically collected from local application endpoints or IoT Operations
leveraging smart devices, controllers or sensors.

Why customers Choose to go to the Cloud?
WHAT IS CLOUD?
▪ An IT Delivery & Consumption Model to
provide infrastructure resources, applications
and services on-demand or by subscription.
▪ An IT Operating Model that can easily adapt
to meet changing application and service
requirements
▪ Streamlines operations
▪ Provides IT agility
▪ Lessens the burden of administrative duties
▪ Provides more time for innovation

Customers choose to go to the cloud because it streamlines and optimize their IT operations.
Cloud brings IT agility which allows organizations to quickly adapt to changing business demands.
Cloud helps the IT team because lessenes the burden of administrative duties such as resource
management and system maintenance. A cloud system provides IT departments with more to focus on
innovative development and business growth.

Cloud Deployment Models
• IT resources provisioned for exclusive use by • Infrastructure shared with general public.
single organization. • IT provisioned by the Cloud service provider.
• Infrastructure may be located on-premise or • Infrastructure is off premise.
may be outsourced.
A private cloud has hardware located onsite or housed and managed by the business offsite, and
provides services exclusively to customer-authorized users, normally employees only.
A public cloud has all hardware hosted at a provider site, with services provided to many different tenant
organizations. Tenants are businesses that make use of the services provided by a service provider.
A hybrid cloud is a model of cloud with a mixed environment created by a single business; a private
cloud is implemented on-site, but there is integration with a public cloud.

Cloud Service Models
IT Provider
IT Consumer
Cloud Service Models describe what kinds of services are delivered by a cloud environment. There are
countless variations of service models. Customers may use a combination of service models to
manage their IT goals.
With Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), a Cloud provider delivers a managed operating environment with
utilities to streamline application development, so PaaS is generally leveraged by software developers
rather than application end users. PaaS enables developers to take advantage of provider-managed
software tools and components like code management, databases, content management, directory
services, etc. (a PaaS form sometimes termed “Backend-as-a-Service” or BaaS). Some forms of PaaS can
even offload application functions to provider-managed facilities for analytical processing, image or
speech recognition, or large-scale computation (a.k.a. “server-less computing” or “Function-as-a-
Service” -- FaaS). Software that is specifically designed and constructed to exploit such offloaded PaaS
capability is considered a “Cloud-native” application.
Simply put, a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) Cloud provider delivers a fully-managed application directly
to end users. SaaS is the most broadly-consumed version of Cloud technology by the general public for
popular activities like media streaming, social media, webmail, etc. SaaS is also widely used in business
to outsource common administration systems for finance, HR, CRM, collaboration, etc.

Let’s start by understanding what TruScale is and how Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) fits into it.
We can think of TruScale as the umbrella for all of our Lenovo products delivered as a Service.
It incorporates our complete portfolio and it allows us to provide simplified access to technology through
a flexible, as a Service model.
We can combine hardware, software and services into a single, configurable solution with a predictable
or variable and affordable periodic fee.
TruScale allows us to dynamically respond to our customer’s current and future needs and become their
trusted partners.
One of our as a Service offerings under the TruScale umbrella is Infrastructure as a Service.

We believe the way IT is consumed today needs to fundamentally change. Rapid changes in technology and
consumer demands make traditional approaches risky and costly.
For several decades, the traditional IT model was based on capital expenses for direct equipment purchases and
expense associated with operating and maintaining them. This model required businesses to acquire an asset up
front, deploy it on premise, and maintain it over time. This is now a risky and costly approach due to the rapid
changes in technology and consumer demands.
Future consumption models must be flexible, allowing businesses to pay for usage when they need it, as they go.
This can lead to a reduction or even elimination of capital expenses and maintenance and upgrade costs, causing
many businesses to transition away from the traditional model toward the new IT consumption model.
Traditional:
Based on capital expenses
Direct equipment purchases, operations and maintenance
Acquire an asset up front
Deploy IT on premises, and maintain it over time
New:
Flexible, pay-for-usage model
Reduce capital expenses, maintenance and upgrade costs
Never take ownership of an asset
Scale up or down on demand without overprovisioning

Lenovo Solutions Services
From the simple to the complex, our experts work with you to find
the right solution for your one-of-a-kind strategic and business needs.
When a customer is changing, adding to or even moving to a new data center, Lenovo has skilled
professionals that can help him by facilitating a workshop, making an assessment and based on the
assessment’s results, designing a solution.
Facilitating a Lenovo funded workshop and paid assessment assist when selling Lenovo Infrastructure
Services (Design)
Design is performed after the workshop and assessment.
Workshop that is funded by Lenovo for qualified customers at no cost is organized to help customer’s
application and platform teams navigate through options and choose appropriate paths on their journey
to achieving business goals. This workshop is a white-boarding interactive session, half-day to one-day,
onsite or remote. Lenovo Principal Consultants will work with you to plan workshop topics suitable for
your customers and identify the specific staff appropriate for your workshop. Sellers can use the
workshop to secure Lenovo a seat at the table early by connecting customers with a Lenovo SME across
Hybrid Cloud, Virtualization & VDI, Data & Analytics, and HPC.
Based on the white-boarding workshop, Lenovo can proceed with a billable assessment to validate and
dissect customers’ environment. The assessment gathers technical details needed for a right-sized
solution design, a comprehensive project plan, and to validate any assumptions made during the
workshop. These assessments include Azure, Storage, Power&Cooling, VDI, VMware, and many more
across the topics of hybrid cloud, VDI, data & analytics, and HPC. Another type of assessment is offered
by Lenovo for specific industry verticals, like the retail and campus environments. The proof of concept
tests is the key aspects of a potential solution.
After the technical assessment, the data gathered can be used toward designing a solution that will
address customer’s pain points and achieve desired business outcomes. Solution Design services help
customers leverage Lenovo expertise to reduce time to value and optimize their IT investments. They
receive detailed technical and business analysis of the solution under consideration and it supports them
by building an implementation plan for optimizing the current environment.
