Assignment 1 – ChatGPT Friend or Foe?

Introduction
ChatGPT is an AI dialogue model developed by OpenAI. It can interact with humans in a
conversational way. You will conduct background research on ChatGPT and critically analyse
its impact on human societies in a technical report. The word count should be around 4000
(including references).

The report should include but not be limited to:

1. Technical in-depth review of ChatGPT such as how it was developed, what
information it uses, related systems (e.g., other dialogue engines, AI chatbot, and
applications that use similar AI techniques), etc.
2. Critically analyse its common use cases and its positive and negative impacts on
human societies by exploring the following aspects:
a. Trustworthiness
b. Accountability
c. Ethics
3. Your verdict and recommendations
4. References (at least 10 and NOT news articles.)

Submission:
1. Final submission should be made to the NILE submission point.
2. Weekly incremental submission to the GitHub assignment repository is mandatory
and counts for “project management” in the marking criteria. Students will set up
