What is audio information and media ?
 are materials or sound that are transmitted, produced or received thru
high fidelity waves that are heard thru certain equipment.

What are the characteristics and uses of audio information


and media
 First, it is ideal for existing music and noise.
 Second, it refers to analog tape cassettes and digital CDs as well as to
computer files containing audio in any number of digital formats.
 Third, it minimize the vague concepts in students mind.
 Fourth, audio helps retaining the interest of the students.
 Fifth, it stimulates the imaginations and critical thinking of the students
and creates mind image to the listeners.
 Lastly, audio is relatively inexpensive compared to video.

1. Radio
 transmission of audio signals through the air.
2. Music recording
 MP3, Digital audio files.
3. Film and television
 audio is integral to the sound design.

 documentaries, field recordings, radio dramas, sonic art(a sound
that combine with performance)

Advantages of audio information and media


1. Audio is inexpensive
2. Resistant to Damage
3. Readily and easily to use
4. They are reproducible
5. Can provide message to non readers

Limitations of audio information and media


1. You follow a fixed sequence
2. It does not monitor attention
3. There is potential for accidental erasure
Different dimensions of audio information and media
 Film Sound - has to match the aesthetic impact of an image.
 Literal Sound - referential, conveys a specific literal meaning, describes
the source of the sound, diagetic sound
 Non-literal Sound – non-referential, non-diagetic , more symbolic,
accompanies a particular image to intensify the intent of that image.

LISTENING VS. HEARING


 Hearing is simply the act of perceiving sound by the ear. If you are not
hearing-impaired, hearing simply happens. Listening, however, is
something you consciously choose to do. Listening requires
concentration so that your brain process meaning from words and
sentences.
