EXERCISE 400

Instruction: Calculate/solve the following problems. NO SOLUTION NO CREDIT.

Problem 01
Two plates 400 mm x 20 mm are to be connected using PJP groove weld
connection that is 15 mm deep. Using A-50 steel and E70 electrodes,
determine the capacity of the plate connection. Use ASD and LRFD.

Problem 02
Determine the required diameter of a plug weld using E60 electrodes on
A-36 steel to develop the full strength of the connection, Use ASD and
LRFD.

Problem 03
Determine the weld leg size needed to fully develop the strength of the plate
shown using A-36 steel and E60 electrodes. Use ASD and LRFD. 150

Problem 04
Determine the maximum service load P that can be resisted safely by the
welded connection shown. Use ASD and LRFD.

Problem 05
Determine the required weld size necessary to carry the load P.
PDL = 360 kN and PLL = 120 kN. Use E60 electrodes. ASD and
LRFD.
