ACTIVITY PROPOSAL

LAUNCHING OF HITO AND TILAPIA FARMING

I. ACTIVITY OVERVIEW:

The NIA-South Cotabato Sarangani Irrigation Management Office (NIA-SCSIMO) thru IDP
implementer and DSWD Region XII strengthen the partnership through the Sustainable Livelihood
Program (SLP). It aims to maximize resources and programs of both agencies for poverty alleviation
and protection of social, cultural, and economic well-beings of farmers under St. Therese Farmer
Irrigators Association, Inc. Through this, sustainable livelihood program activities like Hito and
Tilapia farming as the priority commodity in fisheries to provide job employment livelihood
opportunities among rural fisherfolk and fish farmers, increase their income, and contribute to food
security especially at the household level. The end result is a fresh fish produce to eat, share with the
community or sell to the market.

II. Rationale

The St. Therese Irrigators SLPA organized by DSWD launching the Hito and Tilapia Farming
hereby serve as an additional income to the farmer beneficiaries and as well as community benefits.
The fish cultivation contributes essential to provide a healthy balance diet to an individual.
According to health professionals, catfish and tilapia is high in vitamin B12, which helps your
body make DNA, maintain its nervous system, and produce red blood cells. They are high in protein,
low in fat, and contain omega-3 fatty acids which can help reduce inflammation and improve overall
heart health.
Furthermore, in aquaculture, polyculture involves fish species of different food habits for the
effective use of available fish foods in the ponds that is less intensive but sustainable and
environmentally sound. The said technology enables fish farmers to increase fish production in the
area and double their net income than growing one kind of fish only. 

III. ACTIVITY AUDIENCE:

The committee and participants of this activity is composed of Line Agencies DSWD Region XII,
DA Region XII, LGU Sto. Nino, NIA Region XII, NIA-SCSIMO, Sr. IDO, SWRFT, IDO and St.
Therese Irrigators SLPA Members.

IV. ACTIVITY FORMAT

The activity will include print-based documents. There must be printed programs, and Minutes of
the meeting. The output of the activity is presentation and discussion and at the same time, the facilitators
are expected to have activity documentations for posting on the social media site of NIA ALA RIS page.

V. TRAINIG SCOPE
The activity will be held at Region XII a tentative date of July 2023. See the table of program of
activities below.

Definition of Terms:

 NATIONAL IRRIGATION ADMINISTRATION SOUTH COTABATO – SARANGANI

IMO (NIA – SCSIMO) – is a government owned and controlled corporation primarily
responsible in the water resources development in the Philippines, specifically in the province of
South Cotabato and Sarangani.
 Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) - is a community-based capacity building program that
seeks to improve the program participants’ socio-economic status.
 IMO – refers to Irrigation Management Office.
 IA’s – refers to Irrigators Associations
 COMMITTEE - a body of persons delegated to consider take action on, or report on some
matter an advisory committee specifically.

VIII. EVALUATION:
The presentation of the participant will be evaluated through their reports they will present during
the activity.

IX. ACTIVITY RELATED SKILLS:

The participants of this activity must be equipped with experience and knowledgeable in report
preparation of their respected members.

X. RESOURCE NEEDS:
To attain the success execution and completion of the activity, it should have the following resources:
 One (2) Camera – use for documentation purposes
 Laptop per participants – use for training activities
 Projector – use for Audio Visual Presentation
 Office Service Vehicles – help to transport the participants to the venue from the office or
specific location, or vice versa.
 Printer – use to print copies of reports.
 Bond Paper (Long & A4) – use for printing the copies of reported presentation.
