An organizational structure defines how activities such as task allocation, and supervision are
directed toward the achievement of organizational aims. Organizations need to be efficient,
flexible, innovative and caring in order to achieve a sustainable competitive advantage.
Organizational structure can also be considered as the viewing glass or perspective through
which individuals see their organization and its environment.

Hindustan National Glass & Industries Limited has hierarchical organizational structure. A
hierarchical structure is typical for larger businesses and organizations. It relies on having
different levels of authority with a chain of command connecting multiple management
levels within the organization. The decision-making process is typically formal and flows
from the top down. This creates a tall organizational structure where each level of
management has clear lines of responsibility and control. As the organization grows, the
number of levels increases and the structure grows taller.

in this reading of the SWOT Analysis of ITC Ltd., we will examine this beauty and wellness
company in terms of its internal and external factors.

STRENGTH(S)
Strengths are the firm's capabilities and resources that it can use to design, develop, and
sustain competitive advantage in the marketplace

1. Diverse Revenue models - Over the years Hindustan National Glass Industries have
ventured into various businesses outside the Basic Materials sector. This has enabled
the company do develop a diversified revenue stream beyond Basic Materials sector
and Containers & Packaging segment.
2. Wide geographic presence HNG have extensive dealer network and associate
network that not only help in delivering efficient services to the customers but also
help in managing competitive challenges in Containers & Packaging industry.

integral to the success of Hindustan Nation Glass Ind in Containers & Packaging
industry.
4. Market Leadership Position - HNG has a strong market leadership position in the
Containers & Packaging industry. It has helped the company to rapidly scale new
products successes.
5. Track record of innovation - Even though most players in the Basic Materials strive
to innovate HNG has successful record at consumer driven innovation.

WEAKNES(W)
Weaknesses of Hindustan National Glass & Industries can either be absence of
strengths or resources of capabilities that are required but at present the
organization does not have. Leaders have to be certain if the weakness is present
because of lack of strategic planning or as a result of strategic choice.

1. Niche markets and local monopolies- HNG able to exploit are fast disappearing. The
customer network it has promoted is proving less and less effective.
2. Extra cost of building new supply chain and logistics network - Internet and Artificial
Intelligence has significantly altered the business model in the Basic Materials
industry and given the decreasing significance of the dealer it has to build a new
robust supply chain network. That can be extremely expensive.
3. Declining per unit revenue - Competitiveness in the Containers & Packaging industry
is putting downward pressure on the profitability. A starting guide to manage this

12 | P a g e
situation for company name is – objectively assessing the present value propositions
of the various products.

4. Loyalty among suppliers is low - Given the history of HNG coming up with new
innovations to drive down prices in the supply chain.
5. Declining market share - The Containers & Packaging industry is growing faster than
the company. In such a scenario HNG has to carefully analyze the various trends
within the Basic Materials sector and figure out what it needs to do to drive future
growth.

OPPORTUNITIES(O)
Opportunities are potential areas where the firm chain identify potential for - growth,
profits, and market share.

1. Lower inflation rate - The low inflation rate brings more stability in the market,
enable credit at lower interest rate to the customers of Hindustan National Glass Ind.
This will increase the consumption of HNG products.
2. Trend of customers migrating to higher end products - It represents great
opportunity for HNG, as the firm has strong brand recognition in the premium
segment, customers have experience with excellent customer services provided by
HNG brands in the lower segment. It can be a win-win for the company and provides
an opportunity to increase the profitability.
3. Rapid Expansion of Economy - As the US economy is improving faster than any other
developed economy, it will provide HNG an opportunity to expand into the US
market. HNG already have know-how to operate into the competitive US market.
4. Lowering of the cost of new product launches – HNG launches their products
through third party retail partners and dedicated social network. HNG can use the
emerging trend to start small before scaling up after initial success of a new product.
5. Increasing customer base in lower segments - As customers have to migrate from
un-organized operators in the Basic Materials industry to licensed players. It will
provide an opportunity to penetrate entry level market with a no-frill offering.

13 | P a g e
THREATS(T)

Threats are factors that can be potential dangers to the firm's business models because of
changes in macro-economic factors and changing consumer perceptions. Threats can be
managed but not controlled

1. Distrust of institutions and increasing threat of legal actions - As the

WTO regulations and laws are difficult to enforce in various markets. Legal
procedures have become expensive and long drawn process. It can lead to
less investment into emerging markets by HNG thus resulting in slower
growth.
2. Commoditization of the product segment - The biggest challenge for HNG
and other players in the industry is the increasing commoditization of the
products in Basic Materials industry.
3. Growing technological expertise of local players in the export market -
One of the biggest threats of tie-up with the local players in the export
market for HNG is threat of losing IPR. The intellectual property rights
framework is not very strong in emerging markets especially in China.
4. Shortage of skilled human resources - Given the high turnover of
employees and increasing dependence on innovative solution, company
name can face skilled human resources challenges in the near future.
5. Competitive pressures - As the new product launch cycles are reducing in
the Basic Materials industry. It has put additional competitive pressures
on players such as HNG. Given the large customer base, HNG can’t
respond quickly to the needs of the niche markets that disruptors are
focusing on.
6. Competitors catching up with the product development - Even though at
present HNG is still leader in product innovation in the Containers &
Packaging segment. It is facing stiff challenges from international and local
competitors.

options such as plastics, as glass is sustainable, chemically inert, non-porous and
impermeable. Various consumer surveys have also indicated container glass to be the most
preferred option as it has a long shelf life and doesn't affect the taste of a product.

INTRODUCTION TO HNG RISHRA
Hindustan National Glass is a glass container manufacturing plant located in Rishra, Hoogly,
West Bengal. This factory manufactures three types of glass container category; 1. Green glass
2. Amber glass and 3. Flint Glass. It is the first fully automated glass manufacturing plant of
India.

All of HNG’s plants across India are strategically located in such a manner that they are nearer
to the sources of raw materials and are nearer to ports or harbours that helps in ease of
supply. Since HNG sources all its raw materials from nearby sources, it helps in a big way to
boost local cultivators, work forces and communities who are involved in the process of
gathering the materials such as sand, graphite, limestone etc.

MARKET ANALYSIS OF THE COMPANY

This market study estimates the market size in terms of both value (million USD) and
volume (K Units). The Pharmaceutical Amber Glass Bottles Market report analyses market
trends based on historical data and the latest developments. It provides both qualitative
and quantitative data on the elements that will shape the market's growth from 2022 to
2030. Also, the report evaluates COVID-19's impact on the Pharmaceutical Amber Glass
Bottles Market.

The flint glass containers accounted for the largest share of the market during the forecast
period. Crystal white glass bottle is another name for flint glass bottle. When maximum

labs, life sciences, samples, and a variety of other uses Furthermore, with firms like A.B.
Munroe Dairy United States implementing many measures to encourage customers to
utilize glass bottles by delivering door-to-door delivery of fresh milk bottles, the market
examined is likely to increase throughout the projection period, particularly in the United
States suburban regions.
PROCUREMENT METHODS & STRATEGY
Blown Glass is also known as molded glass. In creating blown glass, gobs of heated glass
from the furnace are directed to a molding machine and into the cavities where air is forced
in to produce the neck and general container shape. Once they are shaped, they are then
known as a Parison. There are two distinct forming processes to create the final container:

• Blow & Blow Process - used for narrow containers where the parison is formed by
compressed air.

16 | P a g e
• Press & Blow Process- used for large diameter finish containers in which the parison is
shaped by pressing the glass against the blank mold with the metal plunger.

Tubing Glass is formed by a continuous draw process using either the Danner or Vello
processes to achieve the correct diameter and thickness. The glass is drawn over a line of
support rollers by a drawing machine.

• Danner Process - glass flows from a furnace forehearth in the form of a ribbon.
• Vello Process - glass flows from a furnace forehearth into a bowl which is then shaped.

Total number of employees being engaged in production division are near about 1400, out of which
170 are managerial employees, 800 are permanent workers and 400 are contractual workers. They
change the shift every 40 minutes.

17 | P a g e
PRODUCTION & OPERATION MANAGEMENT

The materials used to make glass include approximately 70% sand along with a specific
mixture of soda ash, limestone and other natural substances – depending on what
properties are desired in the batch.
When manufacturing soda lime glass, crushed, recycled glass, or cullet, is an additional key
ingredient. The amount of cullet used in the batch of glass varies. Cullet melts at a lower
temperature which reduces energy consumption and requires fewer raw materials.
Borosilicate glass should not be recycled because it is heat-resistant glass. Because of its
heat resistant properties, borosilicate glass will not melt at the same temperature as Soda
Lime glass and will alter the viscosity of the fluid in the furnace during the re-melt stage.
All of the raw materials for making glass, including cullet, are stored in a batch house. They
are then gravity fed into the weighing and mixing area and finally elevated into batch
hoppers that supply the glass furnaces.
