Introductory Message
Welcome to TVL 11 – ICT (Computer System Servicing)!

The Learning Activity Sheet is a product of the collaborative efforts of the

Schools Division of San Carlos City and DepEd Regional Office VI - Western Visayas
through the Curriculum and Learning Management Division (CLMD). This is developed
to guide the learning facilitators (teachers, parents and responsible adults) in helping
the learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum.

The Learning Activity Sheet is self-directed instructional materials aimed to

guide the learners in accomplishing activities at their own pace and time using the
contextualized resources in the community. This will also assist the learners in
acquiring the lifelong learning skills, knowledge and attitudes for productivity and
employment.

For learning facilitator:

The TVL 11 – ICT (Computer System Servicing) Activity Sheet will help you
facilitate the teaching-learning activities specified in each Most Essential Learning
Competency (MELC) with minimal or no face-to-face encounter between you and
learner. This will be made available to the learners with the references/links to ease the
independent learning.

For the learner:

The TVL 11 – ICT (Computer System Servicing) Activity Sheet is developed

to help you continue learning even if you are not in school. This learning material
provides you with meaningful and engaging activities for independent learning. Being
an active learner, carefully read and understand the instructions then perform the
activities and answer the assessments. This will be returned to your facilitator on the
agreed schedule

Networking materials, tools and equipment are essential in troubleshooting.

They help computer technicians determine the errors found in their computer hardware
and network. The following are:

Digital Multimeter - is an instrument that tests two or more

electrical values, mainly voltage (volts), current (amps), and
resistance (ohms). It is a popular diagnostic instrument
used by technicians in the electrical and computer
industries.

4
Crimping tool is a specialized tool used to lock a
connector to the end of a phone or network cable. RJ-11
and RJ-45 connectors are the most often used cable
connectors, and they can only be connected to the end of a
cable using a crimping method.

Wire stripper is a handheld tool designed to remove the

protective coating from a cable to expose the inner wires.

Cable tester is a piece of electronic equipment used to test

the electrical contacts in a signal cable or other wired
assembly. Basic cable testers are continuity testers who
search for the presence of a conductive path between two
ends of a cable as well as the proper wiring of connectors
on the cable.
Soldering Iron -is typically used to link terminals in the
power supply and circuit board using a soldering lead.

Desoldering tool is used to detach soldered components

from circuit boards for troubleshooting, maintenance,
reconstruction, and salvage.

Registered Jack (RJ) is a physically standardized network

interface that is widely used to link computers to Ethernet-
based local area networks (LAN).

Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP)

is a form of copper cabling that is widely used in
telephone wiring and local area networks (LANs).
Network Operating System (NOS) is an operating
system that manages network resources: basically, an
operating system with specific features for linking machines
and devices to a local area network (LAN)

LAN card - is a network interface card. This is a computer

circuit board or card that is installed in a computer so that it
can be connected to a network.

5
Flat headed Screw driver - is used to drive or fasten
negative slotted screws.

Philips Screw driver – is used to drive or fasten cross

headed screws.

Pliers and tweezers - are used for picking small parts in

the computer unit.

Port hub/Port – is a connector on the back of a computer

or other device. It is either a serial port or a parallel port.

A modem is a system that allows one computer to share

data with another, or a device that allows computers to
exchange information.

Router - Is a networking device used to route data packets

between computer networks. Routers are responsible for
traffic steering on the Internet. Data packets are used to
display data transmitted over the internet, such as a web
page or an email.

A server is a computer or system that makes resources,

records, facilities, or programs available to other computers
known as clients through a network.

A patch panel, patch bay, patch field or jack field is a

device featuring a number of jacks, usually of the same
type, for the use of connecting and routing circuits for
monitoring, interconnecting, and testing circuits in a
convenient flexible manner.

A Toner Probe is a two-part instrument. The toner portion

is attached to a cable at one end through adapters such as
RJ-45, coaxial, or metal clips. A tone is produced by the
toner and travels the length of the cable. The probe section
follows the wire. When the probe is close to the cable to
which it is connected

6
A Loopback Adapter, also known as a loopback socket, is
a device that checks the basic functionality of computer
ports. The connector is tailored to the port you choose to
test.

Long nose pliers - are used to bend and extend the lead
of an electronics part or connecting wire.

Allen Wrench - It is an L-shaped metal bar with a

hexagonal head at either end that is used to transform bolts
and screws with hexagonal sockets. It is also known as a
hex driver.

Flash Drive - RAM that can retain data without electrical

power. It is widely used for BIOS chips and for digital
camera and digital music storage

A printer is a piece of hardware that makes a paper copy

(also known as a "hardcopy") of the data created by a
computer.
