III. PROCEDURE
TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES STUDENTS’ ACTIVITIES
A. Routinary Activities
 Greetings

Good morning class! Good morning, ma’am.

How are you today? We are all good, ma’am.

 Prayer
Please everybody standup and let us pray. Lead Let us bow our head and feel the presence of
the prayer Mr. Stephen the Lord.
Our Father in heaven, holy be thy name, thy
kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it
is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread
and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive
those who trespass against us. Do not bring us
to the test but deliver us from evil, Amen.
 Checking of attendance

Who is absent today? None, ma’am.

Very good.
B. Review of the Past Lesson

C. Motivation
Before we proceed to our lesson. Let’s have a
game called “number game”.

I will group you in to two groups. I have prepared

a printed number here from 0-9. (The learners are listening).

Mechanics of the game:

Select a leader. The leader will assign 10 members
to represent the numbers 0-9. I'll give you a
number, such as 1678. The leader will arrange
their members into the number 1678.
The first team to finish first receives one point. Yes, ma’am.
Do you get it, class?

Arrange yourself into, 1576.

(The learners arranged themselves into the
2,874 given number).

D. Lesson Proper
Our new lesson for today is Measures of
Tendency

Any idea what is measures of a central tendency? Ma’am measure of central tendency is a single
value that attempts to describe a set of data by
identifying the central position within that set
of data. the three most common measures of
central tendency are mean, median, and mode
Correct!

Now, we can proceed on the first measurement.

The Mean, kindly read its definition, Jairus. Mean is the most commonly used measure of
central tendency. When we speak of average,
we always refer to the mean. Also, it is the sum
of all items or terms divided by the total
number of items or terms.
Thank you! The formula in getting the mean is
x=
∑x .
N
Where:
x=the mean
∑ x =the ∑ of the scores
N= the total number of scores.
Ten students got the following grade in
Let’s have example 1. Read it, Xian. Mathematics 10: 83, 70, 95, 90, 88, 96, 90, 90,
75 and 85. Find the Mean.

Thank you, Xian. The first thing to do in finding

the mean is to list down all the given.
The grades of ten students are: 83, 70, 95, 90, 88,
96, 90, 90, 75 and 85.
And the total number of scores is 10 since they are
only 10 students. (The learners are listening).

Using our formula x=

∑ x , we can now find the
N
mean.
83+70+ 95+ 90+88+ 96+90+ 90+75+85
x= .

x=86.2 Ages: 18, 17, 18, 19, 18
N=5
Let’s have another example. The ages of five 18+17+18+19+18
contestants in a Mathematics Quiz Bee are the x=

following: 18, 17, 18, 19 and 18. Find their 90
average age. Try to solve on the board, Edzel. x=
5
x=18.
The average age of the contestant is 18, ma’am.

Very good, Edzel. Now, we’re moving on to

Weighted mean. The weighted mean of the n
numbers x 1, x 2, s x 3 … , x n with the respective
assigned weights w 1 , w 2 , w 3 … , wn is

1.3, 1.9, 1.5, 1.1 and 1.6, respectively. What is
Darwin average grade?

Thank you, Princess. The same step in getting the

mean, we need to list down all the given value.
So, we have,
Grades: 88,95, 98, 94, 86
Weights: 1.3, 1.9, 1.5, 1.1 and 1.6
Using our formula, substitute the given values.
x=
∑ (x∗w) = Yes, ma’am.
∑w
88 ( 1.3 )+ 95 ( 1.9 )+ 98 ( 1.5 ) +94 ( 1.1 ) +86 (1.6)
1.3+1.9+1.5+ 1.1+1.6

682.9 Median is the midpoint of the data array.

x= Before finding this value, the data must be

versa. The median will either be a specific

it, class?

Now, let us proceed to the second measure of

central tendency which is the Median. Kindly
read, Lance.

Yes, ma’am.
Thank you, Lance. In getting the Median, we have
2 ways to remember. If the given number of There are nine students in a classroom with
elements is odd number it means that we already ages 18, 19, 21, 21, 18, 20, 17, 22 and 23.

Median but if the given number of elements is
even number it means that we have 2 midpoints,
so, we have to add these two midpoints and divide
it into2.
Do you understand, class?

Alright. Take a look at example number 4. Kindly

Since the number of elements is 9, we can say that
the Median is the fifth observation which is 20.
Here we can tell that there are 4 students younger
that 20 and 4 students older than 20.
We will add these two midpoints and dived in

Their median is 411, ma’am.

Thank you, Rhea. So, first, arranged our data in
ascending or descending order.
398, 400, 402, 407,415, 415, 420, 425 Yes, ma’am.
Here, we have 2 midpoints which is 407 and 415.
What are we going to do, Jeremiah? Yes, ma’am.

Yes, very good. So, what is their median, Keisha? Mode is the value that occurs most often in the
data set. It is also the number/value/observation

Can we now move on to the next measures of

central tendency? Find the mode of the given data set: 15, 28,

Alright, the third measure of central tendency is 30.
Mode. What is Mode, Stephen?

Thank you, Stephen. The mode is easier to find

because no computation is needed. 22, ma’am.
Let’s have an example. Please read, Joshua.

Thank you, Joshua. The same step with the

43, 44, 48, 49. 121, 118, 115, 107, 115.
Base on the data, what is the number that appeared
the most?
Both 115 and 121 appeared twice.
Yes, very good. The number that appeared the
most number of times is 22 and it is said to be
Unimodal.

Okay, let’s have another example. Please read, Find the mode of the given data: 2, 5, 8, 9, 11,

121. What have you notice?

Correct. Thus, the data set has two modes which is

115 and 121 and it is said to be bimodal.

Let’s have another example. Please read, Jem.

Thank you, Jem. Let’s arrange first the data in

ascending order: 2, 3, 5, 7, 8 ,9, 11, 23. What have
you notice in the data set, class?
That is right! This means that there is no mode.

E. Application
Okay, let’s have now a drill. Group yourself into
9.
You have 5 minutes to collect data from your
group mates. Ask the following questions and
record the data.
1. What is your shoe size?
a. Find the mean
b. Find the median (The learners answered all the questions)
c. Find the mode
2. What is your age?
a. Find the mean
b. Find the median
c. Find the mode
F. Generalization
