ACTIVITIES

Answer the following questions based on the information given at the Cali city tour:

1. What had Sebastián de Belalcázar done before he was named governor or


Popayán?

Rta: Before he was named governor of Popayan, he had explored some zones
around the world searching for the legend of El Dorado and the Country of
Cinnamon.

2. Why had happened to the statue of Sebastián de Belalcázar during the strike in
2021?

Rta: This was collapsed by the communities that were doing the demonstrations as a
result of the conflict that was happening.

3. What was the origin of the female cats in the Cat’s park?
Rta: Initially, 15 sculptures were designed by different artists and would be located next to the
Gato de Tejada to keep it company on its journeys. Over time, more felines were added to the
group, with different designs from the original, and were distributed throughout the whole city
which generated a wave of stories around them.

4. Who made the sculpture of El Gato del Río?


Rta: El Gato del Río was a work by the painter and sculptor Hernando Tejada who decided to
donate it to Cali.

5. Give a short description (with your own words) of San Antonio hill.
Rta: I thought it was a very beautiful place, its infrastructure was quite genuine and it was a
very grand place, its green areas were quite striking and it had a beautiful view of the magical
place.

6. Give some suggestions (minimum 5) about the best ways to make the city of Cali
more beautiful and attractive? Use modal verbs.

-You should visit more cultural places in Cali.


-You should take advantage of the potential that Cali has to make art.
-You should take care of the garbage on the floor.
-You should speak more about the touristic sites that Cali has.
-The people of Cali should know about the parks, museums, streets and more that
we have here.

7. Do you think people in Cali appreciate art? Why or why not?

Rta: That depends on how you see it, since some people do and others don't, also this can
vary in fact from what you are looking at.|

8. Which was your favorite place from the ones you visited?

Rta: My favorite place was the cat park, because i saw a lot of different cats that have
variations in their style, everyone was special and also the park had a beautiful view.
