INTRODUCTION
Para sport is able to provide immediate and long-term relief to people with disabilities who are often plagued
with health issues, poor social skills, and lack of self-esteem. It creates an environment that allows the disabled
to develop crucial life skills. Essentially, para-sport can enhance the lives of the disabled and help them lead
more fulfilling and productive life. There are numerous challenges that prevent the disabled from participating
in sporting activities. While people and organisations around the world are continuously trying to remove
barriers of participation for them, the enormous benefits that sport provides to the disabled are not publicised
enough. Various competitions are carried out frequently at national and international levels. The national level
includes state wise and interstate competitions carried out every year and at international level, there are
events like paralympic games organized by the international paralympic committee.
INTRODUCTION
Paralympics is a major international multisport event which gives athletes with physical and intellectual
disabilities, a chance to reach for the stars. The Paralympics are younger than the Olympics, but in just sixty seven
years they have grown to encompass more than 170 countries and 4,000 athletes. These athletes compete in
wheelchairs, with prosthetic limbs, and without senses such as hearing or sight for more than 20 different sports.
The word Paralympics combines the Latin word para which means “next to”, with the word Olympics because
the games happen alongside the summer and winter Olympics. Paralympics pave the way to raise awareness of
disabilities and help to create a more supportive and better equipped world for those with disabilities. Therefore
the purpose of their life can be fulfilled by designing a Paralympic Training Centre.
AIM
To design a space that can rehabilitate and empower those physically challenged athletes by providing the best
facilities and amenities for paralympic training.
OBJECTIVE
NEED
● Para athletes have won 12 medals in the paralympic games for india, eventhough there is no
specialized training centres for them.
● A space needs to be created for such paralympians which exclusively focuses on sports and provides
adequate physical and mental training.
SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS
● A complete excellence centre of this scale and facilities have not been designed in india yet.
● Therefore, case studies are not available directly, so it has to be done in parts.
● It is a design challenge to incorporate the requirements of various categories of differently abled people in
a single area which is going to be supporting the paralympians .
