7 Major Painting Styles
7 Major Painting Styles
“Painting is not about what you see, it’s about what you don’t see.” – Bernd Haussmann
These are the 7 Major Painting Styles – From Realism to Abstract and the examples.
1. Realism
In the arts, realism is the exact, detailed, and unembellished depiction of nature or contemporary life.
Realism opposes imaginative idealization in favor of rigorous examination of visible appearances. As a
result, realism in its broadest definition has encompassed numerous aesthetic currents in various
cultures.
Brush strokes, color utilization, and the texture of a work of art are all examples of painterly technique.
It's possible that something with artistic qualities isn't even a painting; it could be a snapshot or a
drawing that mimics the manner of a painting.
A painting style or movement that began in France in the 1860s and is distinguished by a concern with
conveying the visual impression of the moment, particularly in terms of the shifting effect of light and
color.
Paint applied thickly, colors that burst off the paper, and unnatural hues — fauvism and expressionism
are two trends that brought these traits to life.
Abstraction is about painting the essence of a subject as the artist interprets it, rather than the visible
details.
6. Abstract
Abstract art, also known as nonobjective or nonrepresentational art, is a type of painting, sculpture, or
graphic art in which the depiction of objects from the visible world has little or no role.
7. Photorealism
a painting and sculpture technique distinguished by the highly detailed depiction of everyday life with
the impersonality of a photograph.
