Mozambique and Tanzania

1. BACKGROUND
1.1. The IUCN Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Office (ESARO) runs a number of
Regional and Country based projects. Some of these projects include provincial and
district based sub offices and Knowledge Hubs. The project teams and the
Knowledge Hubs work together with IUCN Academy and the Provincial Directorates
of (1) Agriculture and Artisanal Fisheries, (2) Environment and Territorial
Development and (3) Ministry of Science, Technology and higher Education. They
link to the central level via the respective Ministries and/or National Funds and
Agencies.
1.2. To strengthen the project implementation team and the overall integration of
projects into the programme and in the Hub, IUCN seeks to recruit a Field Project
Assistant, to be based in Chimoio, and support the activities of the NORAD funded
Sustainable Productive Landscape, which cover the districts of Báruè and Vanduzi of
Manica Province. This will be a local recruitment and the position will be located in
the Chimoio PMU-Office, with travel in the intervened districts requested. This is a
full-time position for the 2023-2024 period, with possible extensions within the
project period, depending on good deliverables and evaluation.
1.3. The Project Field Assistant will be integrated in the wider project regional team and
IUCN Mozambique Country Office. She/he will support the teams visiting the
province, the meetings to be organized, the collaboration with local implementing

partners and the collection, filling, and processing of information to the project
manager.

2. 2. JOB DESCRIPTION
2.1. Duties: The Project Field Assistant is responsible to ensure the project constant
engagement with the main stakeholders in the province, district and support the
timely implementation of day to day project activities. Will be responsible for
supporting planning, monitoring and evaluation activities of the project, in
articulation with the Project Manager. She/he will be in charge of the logistical
organization of meetings and field visits as necessary as well as to contribute
technically to the progress of the activities and produce respective minutes and
reports. The Project Field Assistant reports directly to the Project Manager or other
as indicated on the daily management, while interfacing systematically with other
project partners and members.
2.2. SPECIFIC DUTIES: More specifically, the roles and responsibilities of the
Programme Assistant are as follows:
2.3. Assist day-to-day activity implementation, monitoring and reporting of the
SUSTAIN PRO project related activities´;
2.4. Assist in organizing different project events with people of concern and
other stakeholders (e.g discussions. Meetings, workshops, training sessions,
knowledge sharing events, consultations and promotional opportunities for
the project);
2.5. Assist to identify points of entry, needs and requirements for interventions
in each value chain.
2.6. Conduct meetings with business leaders and farmer organizations.
2.7. Identify market chain participants at each exchange point, and be able to
approach them to investigate their volumes handled, prices they pay for raw
material, their sale prices, and interview them to determine their constraints
and bottle necks.
2.8. Carry out financial, logistical and administration support of the project in
coordination with IUCN Mozambique finance and admin team, with local
implementing partners (DPAP, DPTDT, ADEM, SDAEs Vanduzi and Báruè,
local NGOS and community-based groups, academia, other as
recommended) and as requested by project management team.
2.9. Organize and supervise the contents, visits and work of the Knowledge HUB
and the environmental education training-of-trainers, facilitating access to
and security of the Knowledge Hub;
2.10. Organize discussions and negotiation between suppliers and buyers to “link”
farmers and agribusinesses.
2.11. Lead the development of business plans for the for the farmers
cooperatives/Associations .
2.12. Should have some market distribution channels knowledge and
understanding.

2.13. Support the evaluation and training sessions for the project to facilitate
training needs and participate in field visits as requested for the good
development of actions and successful implementation;
2.14. Work closely with the project partners and stakeholders at district and
community levels and provide support in recommending and implementing
the field activities:
2.15. Ensure strong information flows between all interested parties concerned by
project where the Assistant will be assigned regarding the workflow;
2.16. Assist the Project Management Team in preparing project documents and
reports. Including event reports, case studies, fact-sheets and web-stories;
2.17. Alert the project management team immediately in the face of any obstacles
or constraints;
2.18. Carry out other relevant tasks assigned by and mutually agreed with the
Project Manager.
2.19. Maintain up-to-date files and records of project documentation

3. REQUIREMENTS
3.1. POSITION EQUIREMENTS:
3.1.1. Advanced university degree in agriculture, agri-business, agricultural economics,
development economics or related field;
3.1.2. Solid understanding, both theoretical and practical, of agriculture development
strategies and approaches and ability to convey this knowledge to other team
members, DAIL officials, and other agencies as required.
3.1.3. At least Diploma level Training(s) in Community Based or Training of Trainers.
3.1.4. Training(s) in the use of project knowledge sharing Platforms
3.2. Experience;
3.2.1. At least 3 years’ experience in community based projects.
3.3. Language Proficiency;
3.3.1. Fluency in written and spoken English and Portuguese.
3.4. Core Competencies;

3.5. Functional competencies;
3.5.1. Strong analytical and results oriented skills; ability to see patterns and approach
with solutions;
3.5.2. Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office
applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; and office technology
equipment;
3.5.3. Experience in the areas of Gender or related subjects will be considered as an
advantage
3.5.4. Ability to collaborate well with the teams, including those working at remote
locations, while also taking initiative to complete assigned tasks with high
competence;
3.5.5. Capacity to produce high-quality briefs and reports;
3.5.6. Detail-oriented, flexible and hardworking;

3.5.9. Demonstrable good understanding of the nature conservation landscape, climate
